"WE BOUGHT FLAG STONE TO PUT ALL AROUND OUR BACKYARD, AND SOME CINDERBLOCK TO MAKE A SMALL WALL IN OUR GARDEN. WE ARE SHOPPERS AND GO TO WHERE THE BEST BUY IS, AND ALSO KEEP IT CLOSE TO HOME. ALPINE IS VERY HELPFUL, AND ALWAYS HAS BLOCK AND STONE IN STOCK, FOR THOSE 'WANT IT' TYPE OF PEOPLE."

"Travis and his team did a wonderful job at completing our front yard landscaping vision. They worked with us to come up with a plan that fit our esthetic and budget. They weren’t pushy or upsellers like some of the companies I had previously interviewed. They were knowledgeable about which types of plants to use where and why, they were punctual and completed the job in a very timely manner, they were professional and left the site clean and tidy each day, and they even did little things to go above and beyond (brought our trash cans out on trash day without being asked, refilled our dog’s water when it was low, etc.). We had a very positive experience with Travis and his team and we were very happy with our curb appeal after they completed the job. We would recommend them for a landscaping job."

"I was looking to enhance the curbside beauty as well as the functionality of my front yard and my back yard, and System Pavers outperformed any and all expectations and hopes I could have had. From the design created by John (JJ) S., to the superb installation by Luis R. and his outstanding crew, my house was transformed from simply "another house in the neighborhood" to the "talk of the neighborhood". System pavers lived up to their verbal commitments and their written contracts, and throughout the entire 3-week project, checked with me every few days to make certain that the job was being installed to my satisfaction. I increased the job scope along the way, and System Pavers didn't skip a beat! They modified their plans to accommodate my enhancement requests, and finished project is worthy of being advertised in a professional publication. I whole-heartedly recommend System Pavers to anyone considering enhancing the beauty and functionality of their outdoor living areas!"

"they were on time, very clean (although I had to ask for them to clean up the wood floors). However, I asked to remove water stains on our terracotta floors and the sales rep thought we would see a big difference and unfortunately, we did not. In fact, there are now brush strokes on our tiles and they are slick due to the sealant. The technicians told me this was the very best that they could do, and I believed them, but I was hoping for much better results. <br />"

"Excellent work. Dave had to plan and adjust plans on the fly as we did not have a plot plan-nonetheless, he deciphered our questions and musings and made suggestions that improved the site considerably. He spoke to all of the neighbors as the work was extensive and contracted for services with true professionals. He also visited the site every day to check on progress and kept in touch daily. You couldn't ask for better communication from a contractor."

"Our new home had a very neglected landscape. It needed a total overhaul. We were so lucky to call in the Coast Guard of all landscape saving, Panjia! Steve and his brother work together with an "A" Team crew. The guys all have such an amazing work ethic. They were dredging and digging on the hottest heat wave days and getting the job done in the fattest time ever! The crew of workers are really outstanding and polite men. We needed a privacy screen first and foremost. They came out and constructed a raised stucco bamboo planting container and created this amazing tropical zen garden. They also completely replaced antiquated sprinklers with water efficient models. They installed beautiful river rocks for more detail. I am grateful for the entire team's dedication to making your job truly feel like it is not a number but a priority. Steve was extremely helpful because he always is knowledgeable and quickly responded to our calls. This is a high end service providing excellent customer service and quality work. We are beyond happy with Panjia and will definitely use them in the future. They are the people that you are grateful to have working at your home. They are all very respectful and always left things looking amazing. They also have the technical expertise to address issues from your home inspection and we are grateful that they were also affordable as we could never have fixed so many things and taken care of so many issues without their fair pricing for superior work. I like that they take pride in their work and listen to what your vision is and make recommendations that work for you. I also thought they were great about researching the best shrubs for those with allergies or who want water friendly varieties. They also know what works with your soil and area. They source from reputable nurseries who guarantee their products."

"Pedro and his crew trimmed 10 of the trees on our 1 acre property; from oaks to peppers to jacarandas, etc. They did a beautiful job! A Passion for Gardening has been doing our trees for 5 years or so and we see a big difference in their health and appearance. Thank you for the excellent work!"

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in San Diego, CA

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
