"Daniel and his crew did a good job planning and completing the project of adding 500 sq ft to the back of my house. That included demolition of back porch and fireplace, expanding the living room, primary bedroom, primary bathroom and large walk-in closet. We worked well together in the design and execution of my dream home. The best way to communicate with Daniel is by text. "

"Mesa Verde transformed our outdated bathrooms into a beautiful work of art. They not only made the bathrooms highly functional, but also designed bathrooms that perfectly capture the warmth and charm of Santa Fe. The latillas in the ceiling and the tadelakt Italian plaster elevated the rooms into a luxurious retreat. The craftsmanship was exceptional. "

"My 12 year old wood porch was wood rotted badly. Initial installation of the porch did not provide the rain/snow to run off properly and instead any slow run off ran down into the beams and posts. After a big wind the facet of one of the corbels completely fell off showing the wood underneath was completely rotted. Angi/Home Advisor referred ERG Construction to come out and give an assessment and they came out within 1-2 days of being notified. I found Eric, the owner very professional and courteous. He looked the porch over checking to see how bad the damage was and explained what he thought needed to be done and how he would not only repair it, but also prevent it from happening again. I was happy to see that he didn't seem like he wanted to do more repair than needed and I felt comfortable and confident that he would do the job and do it right. He was able to come out sooner than we had even scheduled and even with the holiday season being in full swing and the lumber business he usually deals with being closed, he still came through by finding another company to provide the vegas, corbel and posts that we needed. Eric and his worker, Aaron showed up and worked hard every day they were there. When they left for the day they always made sure that the work area was as clean or cleaner than when they got there. They showed up when they said they would and worked almost non stop every day. They finished the job on time even though we had to wait a day on pieces to be made. When the project was completed, I was amazed that it looked nicer than it did to start with and my porch and yard were completely cleaned of any debris. Eric took the time to explain what he did to ensure the water would not be able run down causing it to be damaged in the same way again. I am so thrilled with the job ERG Construction did, I will definitely be using them again in the future for any needs that I have. You will not find a better team to do your project. Eric and Aaron did the work of a 4 man crew and finished in record time. The other 2 reasons I liked these guys was 1. Eric is a veteran and I believe in supporting our veterans and 2. My dogs loved them and I totally trust their instincts. Schipperkes are not dogs that trust just anyone. I highly recommend them and think you will too if you hire them to do your job."

"Danny is great to work with. Straightforward, clear and collaborative. He scheduled our job quickly and finished ahead of schedule. Tom and Tony (flooring/tile) were great to have in our home and they did amazing work: prepping the slab and laying the tile on a 45 degree angle. Minimal waste and perfect lines.. Baseboards were expertly mitered and joints were virtually invisible. The painting was done very professionally and without an error. We had Danny do a kitchen, den and two baths five years ago and we'll call on him again for our master bath remodel. Price was very fair. Workmanship, timeliness and cooperation were superb."

"Everyone was very professional I asked to be there when they cut the granite and was able to get the best colors for the peninsula. They cleaned up and kept everything clean as possible while doing the demo and installing. Would hire them again to do more work in my house. The prices are very reasonable."

"David and his team did a fantastic job for us. We had a large mold build up in our attic, and David's team did a wonderful job at remediating the problem even though it was a very difficult work space. They always showed up on time, worked hard, were respectful to us and our living conditions, and finished the job within the tight time schedule that we had requested."

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Santa Fe, NM

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
