".This visit occurred prior to Orville selling the business. I have always been satisfied with Mr. Hay's work. He was always up front about his recommendations and what he thought best for the situation and the estimated costs. He was our first choice of plumbers in the Jacksonville area.
However in 2014, it is a different story. We needed to have the sump pumps and garbage disposal replaced. Tried contacting the business several times without success. We left messages, but did not receive any follow up contact. I do know that at the time, they were involved with a large job at the grain elevators south of town.
We finally got tired of leaving messages. We utilized Manchester Heating and Plumbing. I was able to talk to a person versus an answering machine. Chad arrived promptly and efficiently installed the sumps and garbage disposal at a very reasonable price. He arrived on time and is very professional. He is fair and honest in his pricing and estimates. I would highly recommend this local independent contractor.
"

"I know others have complained about the price and so I contacted our local water testing company for costs. My local company wanted to charge me for individual testing of all the things Environmental was charging me a flat fee for. With my local company I was well over $600 to cover the same testing Environmental was doing for around $200. They sent me the bottles to ship my liquid in and provided me with a free shipping container to send back to them. I didn't have to pay the return postage. I think the entire transaction from placement on Angies List to a report in my hand was about a week or week and a half. I called the number they gave to have someone go over my report with me, which was great. We did have to mitigate a few issues based on the report. Overall, I am completely satisfied and will probably used them on a yearly basis or so for our well testing.
"

"I was given a window between 1pm and 2pm for an estimate. The guy showed up almost an hour late. After determining what was leaking he went to home depot to get the replacement part. I still had not been given an estimate.
He gets back and replaces the part maybe 45mins at home depot and 15 mins at my house, then has no idea what to charge me. Here is where I realize I'm in trouble. He waits about an hour to talk to his boss and see what the charge would be, so much for getting an estimate before hand. He finally gets ahold of the guy then tells me its $185. I asked him if that included the 10% angies list discount listed on angies list and he shrugs and says "uh, I think so", right.
So basically I feel like a dope for not demanding an estimate before he booked it out to the store, but still that's a little ridiculous. I won't be using McDonah again.
The work however was fine, he left it in better condition then it was.
"

"
We had been having problems with leaks in our sunken living room for quite a while. The leaks started last year and we had PermaSeal come out and do a "repair" which ended up not working. (The amount of water was reduced, but it still kept coming in, even after PermaSeal did a wrap seal of our foundation.) Frustrated, especially after PermaSeal did not guarantee their last job and wanted to charge us 1000s of dollars for a redo, we consulted with our neighbor across the street who had a similar problem that arose right when ours did. They said Safeguard had IDd and fixed their leak issue (same spot as ours) for a third of what PermaSeal charged, so we called Safeguard.

Phil from Safeguard came out very promptly (actually early! He asked permission to come a full 2 hours early if it was convenient for me, and I said yes). He looked at the area where we suspected the leak occurred and commented that PermaSeal (his former employer!) had done a poor job. He also remarked that the leak might not even be a foundation leak, but rather an above-grade leak like a mortar problem or chimney problem that was then dripping down behind the drywall. He conducted a series of tests using water from our hose to see where water might seep in depending on where the water was pointed. He did a "flood" test of the ground near the foundation---no leak. Then he pointed to some spots where there was missing caulk on our chimney seams, and said that the water could be getting in there instead. He had me go inside and look inside the fireplace while he trained the hose on these side seams, and BINGO! That's where the water was getting in. He found the exact leak location when PermaSeal could not (they just "guessed") Phil then said, "Well, we don't fix that since it's above-grade, so I recommend you contact a siding or chimney company to make those repairs. I'm not going to sell you something that won't fix the real problem just to make my commission."

Phil spent nearly 2 hours identifying the true source of our water problem, even when it would not benefit him or his company. Very honest and decent guy, and we WILL use this company when we do have a foundation problem. Great!

"

"The contractor removed one tank containing filtering media the added a larger one with a media that was sufficient for the iron content that had to be removed. He further adjusted the system and corrected the water flow and backwash cycle. Other tanks were cleaned along with the flow valve for proper functioning. The contractor was in and out in four hours using two workers that were both polite and competent. Everything was cleaned up and was left in better shape than when they arrived. From the time they put the new system on line our water has been perfect. We are so happy after several contractors worked on our system for 10 years and none of them has gotten it right.
WE RECOMMEND THIS CONTRACTOR TO ANYONE WITH BAD DRINKING WATER!"

"Heartland Plumbing is a family-owned business. Brandon is the owner and was also the lead plumber on my project. When the owner is doing the work, you know it is getting done right. Brandon is very professional and very knowledgeable about all aspects of plumbing. Two of his employees that also worked on my project were just as professional and courteous. Brandon has a and quot;can-doand quot; attitude. I got estimates from two other plumbers who moaned and complained about how difficult the job would be. Brandon was confident that he could do it without major difficulty. While his estimate wasn't the cheapest, it was very close to the others, and I felt his level of professionalism and quality of work was well worth a few extra bucks. I am very particular about the way work is performed in my home, and Heartland Plumbing and Sewer met all of my expectations. I will continue to use Heartland Plumbing in the future and have already scheduled Brandon to come back and do some additional work for me. I also recommended him to a neighbor who needed a hot water tank replaced. Brandon installed a tankless water heater for her, and she and her husband both thanked me for the recommendation. If you need a plumber, look no further.
"

"Paid for over half of job on day of ordering. Was told could pay rest of bill off before the end of Feb without any interest. Got a notice from their financial group that I would have to pay so much a month for 12 months and if I paid off early I would have to pay a fee.
Work began 3 days after they said it would. They could not finish and said they would be back within the next day or two. I had to call them about 10 days later to find out when they were coming. Got the story they should have been there, I will call the supervisor. 2 days later got a call, they will be there in 2 or 3 days. They finally made it finished the insulation and put in 6 of the 8 vents, said they could not do those and I will get credit for those.... And I still wait for that, if I had know this I would have never done business with this company.
"

FAQs for sump pump repair or replace projects in Sesser, IL

Sump pumps last about 10 years with proper maintenance and prompt repairs. Several factors can influence your sump pump’s lifespan, such as usage, environmental conditions, and installation. Premium sump pumps with heavy-duty motors and quality components tend to last longer than lower-cost models. Pedestal sump pumps usually last longer than submersible models since they’re not constantly exposed to water.

A basement French drain is a drainage system installed in basements or around a building’s foundation to redirect water and prevent flooding. This system features a trench with a perforated pipe that catches and transports water away. These systems can crack, freeze, or clog, potentially resulting in flooding or strain on your sump pump.

You can use a sump pump in your yard to minimize pooling water and landscape damage, but it’s best used in conjunction with other drainage systems. This can include French drains, trench drains, underground downspouts, and other equipment. Proper lawn care, such as soil aeration and native plants, also aids with drainage.
