"Jose and his team were great! They were on time, fast, and efficient. We had sod installed in our backyard and a few shrubs removed. Everything looks beautiful. We would absolutely hire them again!"

"They covered our entire 1/2 acre property which a few years back was the runner-up in the Baltimore Sun's best gardens review. Edged and cleared out all of our beds, spread 10 yards of mulch, and rebuilt a 70 yard long french drain. Our neighbors commented "It's looks like something you see in a magazine." We agree! Amazing team -- so polite, attention to detail, and hard working. Love these guys!"

"The design was well conceived. The installation was careful to not disturb grass lawn. The light fixtures seem to be excellent quality. The installation was overseen by a manager."

"It went great! Initially we were somewhat skeptical, especially given the cost was more than we wanted to spend. However, one year later the backyard has become our favorite room in the house! It is so nice to not have to keep the blinds closed because you hate the way your yard looks. We have a small yard living in a townhome, but the pavers have really given us more space. I LOVE MY BACKYARD now and sit out there almost every day! <br />"

"My parents who are in their 80's had a buried oil tank that was not sending oil to the burner, and we called GreenTrax. They did an amazing job - responsive, professional and great customer service. The crew arrived and diagnosed the issue as a leaking oil tank and immediately took action to resolve the issue, including notification and filing the necessary paperwork to conduct an environmental cleanup. They dug out the contaminated soil, hauled it away for proper disposal and backfilled the hole. They also installed a new above ground oil tank so that the oil burner could work again. They kept my parents and me informed throughout the process - true professionals and I recommend them highly!"

"<p>I have a large garden that needed a lot of work. I purchased a deal for three hours and realized after the three gentlemen arrived that I had underestimated the work. Fernando first went around with me and assessed the work as I explained exactly what I wanted done. I appreciated the fact that he heeded my request not to trim my shrubs to the bone as I like them to flower in the spring. Even though I did pay for an extra hour, it was not enough to do everything. Being a gardener myself, and based on limited time factor, I felt they did the best they could. They arrived on time and worked diligently to accomplish as much as they could within that time frame. They bagged all the trash and placed the bags on the front lawn for trash collection, leaving the grounds very clean. They were all very courteous and friendly and I felt quite satisfied at what they managed to do, and I have since received compliments on my beautiful, clean garden.</p>"

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Shady Side, MD

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
