"SUMMARY: SES did high quality work. They stuck to the projected cost. They finished within the estimated timeframe (or at least close enough). PRELIMINARY STAGES: SES promptly returned our initial call and set up a visit by their estimator. Within a very reasonable timeframe (maybe a little more than a week), we had the estimate in hand. In contrast, we were shocked to see how difficult it was to deal with some other contractors--even in the early stage, when we were trying to give them business. DETAILS OF THE JOB: They gutted ~50% of a ~180 sq ft bathroom to the studs; did some framing/re-framing; removed a large tub and patched in some hardwood; completely re-did the mortar bed/tile/plumbing for the shower; re-routed an HVAC intake to a different part of the house; moved/added some plumbing and electrical; installed a new commode and tile floor in a new toilet closet; hung crown molding; installed a double vanity with a stone top; hung a large mirror and frameless shower door; built out 2 closets. QUALITY. Their renovation was high quality and fit perfectly into our 1930’s arts-and-crafts home. They found, sanded, and painted an old 5 panel door to match the doors in rest of the house. The salvaged/refinished pine floor fits into the existing pine floor seamlessly, and the new trim work matches that in the rest of the house. Their tile guy did an outstanding job on the shower—floor to ceiling with a bullnose and a niche. The subs they used for the vanity/stone top and for the mirror/shower door did a high quality job. We designed our closets and the trim carpenter built them out perfectly (soft-close drawers and all). COMMUNICATION. This was a big asset to the SES experience. Ashley kept us posted with an email almost every day. We knew what to expect when we got home from work, as well as what to look for the next day and the rest of the week. In the rare event that there were surprises or delays, Ashley would let us know right away as well as what the resolution would be. While Ashley was the main line of communication, the owner, Shawn, was very accessible as well when necessary. PROFESSIONALISM. All the people we interacted with were professional and punctual. The workers were respectful of us and our home, and they did a great job cleaning up every day. With very few exceptions, people were at the house every weekday (and even some weekend days), from the start to the finish of the project. THE UNEXPECTED. As the work proceeded, some minor structural damage from the old shower had to be addressed and the hot water heater needed some repairs. These were taken care off in a time- and cost-efficient manner. Otherwise, there were a few miscommunications regarding the electrical rough ins, a plumbing valve, the closet build outs, and the shower door. All these were very minor and easily addressed. Along the way—and especially as things neared the end—Shawn made sure we had everything exactly the way we wanted it. This was our first time hiring a contractor. Before our renovation, we had heard many contractor-related horror stories. Our experience with SES was drastically different. We are already scheduling another project with them."

Samuel was there with his crew the majority of the time making sure everything we spoke about was done! His price to replace, the roof, all the boards around and under the roof and paint was lower than other estimates I got to just replace my roof. "I can’t recommend Kennon Crockett, P.E. enough. He’s been an incredible help through a really stressful situation with my home’s foundation and a city-side sewer line issue. From the start, he was thorough, professional, and honest — helping me avoid getting taken advantage of by a plumbing company and instead understand the real cause. He prepared a detailed, sealed inspection report and has continued to guide me step-by-step on how to get the city involved for proper repairs. He’s also been consistently communicative and genuinely invested in helping homeowners. I’ve already recommended him to coworkers and friends — and funny enough, my dad had him help years ago after Hurricane Ida which won me brownie points once he heard Crockett. That says a lot. If you want an engineer who’s knowledgeable, ethical, and truly cares about his clients, Kennon is your guy."

"Jeff has done multiple repairs and installs in my home over the years. Originally he wasn't available to do this install, but when I had another contractor reschedule multiple times and not show, I jumped when Jeff said he was available. Jeff is my first call. The microwave was basic, I just helped Jeff lift it out of the box and he did the rest. He also fixed a door that was coming off the hinges and a door that wasn't closing correctly. He lets an expletive in his speech fly ever so often, but he polite, dresses for the job, and is prepared."

"Jason did an amazing job on our master bathroom renovation. Outstanding craftsmanship on everything, and in our case that included shiplap walls, custom shelving , very large custom shower, new ceiling, and all the trim and paint. Added bonus - extremely considerate of wife, children, and dogs (even fixed a broken glass figurine for our daughter). Can't say enough good things about Jason and his work."

"We have used Don and Doug for several projects at our home including roof repairs on both the pool house and, most recently, the carport.  We acquired this house in 2012. Although it is in excellent shape we have discovered some shoddy work that was done, likely in an effort to restore the house following hurricane Katrina.  Nonetheless, we noticed that water appeared to be collecting on the vinyl ceiling of the carport after it rained.  Upon calling Don it was noted that the "pitch" of the roof was off thereby causing rainwater to collect in some sagging areas on the roof.  Given the fact that the tiles on the roof were also incorrectly laid the water would seep through the crevices between down to the underlying plywood and, with nowhere to go, pool on the vinyl ceiling below. Needless to say that the plywood was rotten and served as an invitation for termites, among other things.  Don and Doug replaced the plywood, adjusted the pitch of the roof allowing the rainwater to flow off properly, and replaced the tiles, laying them correctly. They also added a center beam to provide greater stability for the weight of the roof.  The carport now looks higher, and we have had NO problem with leakage after heavy rain.   <br /> Don Goodworth and his trusty colleague Doug are knowledgeable, efficient, and very thorough.  They go beyond the call of duty to ensure that you are completely satisfied with their work.  Their combined years of service in the construction industry serve them well.  We have every intention of re-hiring them as the need arises for structural repairs to our home.  We are VERY satisfied customers!!! <br />"

"From start to finish, it was a pleasure working with David Brooks and his crew. During the estimate phase, even before he secured our business, Mr. Brooks made several trips to the house in order to provide an accurate assessment. He was very easy to talk to and helped us hone in on the scope of the project and helped guide our decision as to where best to direct our attention. Once the project began, the crew was very professional. They were pleasant to chat with over the course of the 8 week project, and always provided great updates on the work being done. Mr. Brooks was very communicative throughout the project and reached out regularly to clarify decisions or discuss new developments. I felt very comfortable raising any concerns or questions and Mr. Brooks was always quick to address them. As new issues came up, (the house did not have any work done on it for a long time, we were mentally prepared for the worst as they started pulling off siding), Mr. Brooks gave concise analysis to help us make a decision and manage our budget. Brooks Painting did an amazing job on the major work needed and they did an amazing job on all the small details as well. The crew must have come back an addition 3-4 times for a 'final cleaning and walk through' to follow up on details such as painting the house numbers and other small accents."

FAQs for major home repair (general contractor) projects in Slidell, LA

In many cases, it’s much less expensive to convert a bus than to buy an RV, especially if you’re considering a newer RV model, which can exceed $100,000.

Another huge benefit of school bus conversion is that you are in control of the renovation project. You get to pick your camper's new layout and all the appliances and furniture.

While school buses can easily cost $300,000 when they're new, you can often find used buses for just a few thousand dollars. These vehicles experience extreme depreciation due to government regulations; they can only be used for so long before they must be replaced. Due to those same regulations, other government agencies cannot purchase them for their own uses, so the consumer market is the only place they can go.

The length of time it takes to convert a bus depends on the scope of the project (and size of the bus), how much work is DIY vs. done by a professional contractor, and how much work you’re doing up front.

In general, expect at least a couple of months for a conversion, but larger conversions could take six months to a year. Remember: You can tackle projects as you go: Get the basic work done so that it’s livable, and then continue to enhance your living space over time.
