"If I could give a negative number I would. First contracted with Mr. Remer in April of 2019. Here are the issues with his service: 1. He diagnosed a faulty pump as the problem with my pool. When the pump was replaced, at a cost of almost $1500, the system still did not work. He couldn't fix it, so I had to get an electrician. When I asked about the pump that had been removed, he said he couldn't find it. I believe that pump worked, and he just sold it to someone else. 2. Once the system was circulating, the pool was green. We agreed to $800 to get the pool clean. That took from the end of April to the end of June. TWO MONTHS 3. He made some changes in the system and made several damages: a. He replaced the valve at the top of the filter, and it broke after he had left. Fortunately another contractor identified it, and we were able to turn it off, but not until the leak had leaked at least a thousand gallons of water. b. Finally, after we got everything working, we now have a leak, and have never had a leak. Of course, he was not able to fix it. 4. After all that, he finally finished his work on June 30th. He then sent me a threatening text message on JULY 4th that he was going to put a lien on my house if he did not get his money. He also charged an additional $400 dollars. 5. Total charges More than $2700 and a leaking pool. Stay away from this man. He is lazy, arrogant, and dangerous. If he were in a professional field, such as medicine or law or health care, he would literally be in jail for the way he does his job."

FAQs for swimming pool or accessories repair or service projects in Smyrna, TN

A well-maintained, correctly sized pump lasts eight to 12 years. Help it reach the upper end of that range by cleaning the strainer basket, monitoring for unusual sounds, and verifying that the pump’s flow rate matches the filter's specifications. Address leaks or pressure dips quickly—minor fixes now cost far less than a premature replacement later.

Listen for grinding or screeching, watch for breaker trips, and keep an eye on sudden spikes in your electric bill—any one of these signals the pump needs attention. If repairs continue to accumulate or the unit is older than eight years, replacement often makes more financial sense. Contact a qualified pool repair professional immediately to diagnose the issue and prevent further damage to the filter or plumbing.

It’s best to keep your pool pump on while swimming. Keeping the pump on while you swim allows the filter and skimmers to catch debris in real-time, maintaining water features flowing. It’s not mandatory, but weaving swim time into your regular eight-to-12-hour schedule helps maintain crystal-clear water and consistent chemical levels without extra effort.

Start by shutting off the power at the breaker and verifying with a voltage meter. Close the water valves, bleed pressure, and unbolt the old pump. Wire the new unit according to the manufacturer's diagram, glue in the PVC unions, prime the housing, and tighten everything securely. Open the valves, flip the breaker, and watch for steady water flow and quiet operation. If any step feels beyond your expertise, consider hiring a licensed electrician or pool technician.
