"A and R Environmental was recommended to us by friends who have a construction business. They did not disappoint! <br /> Jordan came out to install a radon air system in the house we were in the process of purchasing. He was right on time and was very kind and professional. He determined where the best place for the system would be so it would not be intrusive and would be inconspicuous. He worked very diligently in order to finish without taking up a lot of our time. He did a beautiful job. Once it was done he set up a radon test and came back a few days later in order to check to make sure the system was working properly, which it was. <br /> We had a choice of several companies to use, most of which were less expensive, but we decided to go with A and R because of their good reputation, warranty, and professionalism. We highly recommend them. <br />"

"First off - DO NOT DO PAY FOR THEIR WATER AND RADON TESTS!  They are over-priced and take way too long for results.  In fact we never received our water report!  Do it yourself, get tests from a reputable and more reasonable lab, such as www.etrlabs.com/ in Leominster.  We paid PC&A almost as much for the tests as the inspection and didn't have results within a week! <br /> PC&A also are pretty big on CYA, so don't expect too much out of the inspection report.  They were very good one-on-one during the inspection.  Although they pulled the classic 'get there 30 minutes early and do the roof first'.  When you arrive on time they will tell you 'oh, we did the roof first and found this and that', but they won't take you up there.  This is annoying, if you are going to buy a house, and pay for an inspection, and the roof isn't crazy steep or high, then you MUST walk the roof.  Preferably aided by a professional who can walk you through the various issue.  In our case the roof had all sorts of problems.  I didn't get a clear idea what they were based on the inspection and report and therefore had to pay a roofer to come out and walk me through the problems.  So I paid twice! <br /> All the negatives aside, we really did find the remainder of the inspection helpful, both the inspectors were knowledgable and responsive to questions, and brought issues to our attention.  We did not end up purchasing the house, based in part on issues uncovered during the inspection, so it wasn't a total waste of money.  When we did find the right house for us, we had a different inspector and did the water/radon tests ourselves.  In total it came in $450 less than with PC&A and the inspection/report was just as good, plus we had our inspection and tests results emailed to use within 48 hours. <br />"

"Phone sales support was outstanding. Got a quote fast, and had all my questions answered. Two techs showed up on time on the scheduled work day. They were friendly and efficient. They inspected all the areas and worked closely with me to ensure that the vent piping was done right. They had to do some digging around in attic insulation, and in the basement, to find the right areas to cut holes and run pipes. The job took about 6 hours. They cleaned up thoroughly after themselves, put attic insulation back in place, etc. After about six days of daily monitoring, it appears that the system is working remarkably well; an initial long term test before remediation showed basement radon levels above 6.5 pC/l. After remediation I'm measuring levels below 0.20 pC/l. The system is essentially noiseless. I couldn't be happier!"

"Terry arrived before we did and had already set up a ladder to the roof. He came to greet us and walked around the house explaining the things he had discovered. Terry took the time to go into every space of the house (roof, attic, basement, underneath the porch, etc). He walked around with his trade tools, a thermal camera which he used to show us hot/cold spots, and a digital camera. I am sure the real estate agents did not expect the inspection to take the three hours that it did, but we as the potential buyers were happy that Terry took the time to go over all the details we had clearly not seen before. <br /> We received a 90-page PDF report the next day which had even more information than what we had learned during the inspection. I would recommend Terry to everyone who wants a thorough, unbiased, fair-priced home inspection. <br /> We probably won't buy this house because the costs of repairs far exceed our budget. We could not be any happier with our home inspector. Will use Terry again for our next potential house. Go with Seacoast Inspections, you will not regret it!"

"We live in a townhouse condominium and are not allowed to make any modifications on the exterior, which is frankly, the easiest way for a radon mitigation company to do their job quickly. No problem at all! The owner John came to our home to do the evaluation and provide an estimate. He’s been doing this since the 90’s and knows his stuff! It was easy peasy and we booked our work for a couple weeks out. The technician, Bryan (who's also been doing this since the 90's!), arrived promptly at 8am, as scheduled and set to work. He was very professional and patient with me, a DIYer with a ton of questions. His work is impeccable. Honestly, I wasn’t sure what to expect and was very nervous about the whole thing, especially since he had to go through several floors inside a couple of closets and my new hardwood floors. He was so accurate and efficient that I actually didn’t know he’d gone through the floors and ceiling until I saw the holes. They were neat, no jagged edges, no damage to the floors or ceiling. I was shocked – in the most positive way. I can’t recommend this company highly enough. I’ll use them for any home I ever have and recommend them to everyone I know!"

"MKC made the whole home inspection process extremely easy.  We needed to have an inspection in a short timeline (we were calling Thursday for the following week) and contacted MKC after reading reviews here and on Yelp.  MKC was able to accommodate this short timeline by scheduling us for the following Monday at 9:00 am. <br /> While our realtor had recommended other inspectors and MKC's price was a slightly higher than others, I was very happy we went with MKC.  We worked with Morgan, who was extremely thorough, detailed, and professional.  He was very attentive to all aspects of the house (from small items such as dishwasher positioning to larger drainage issues) and explained everything to us in detail.  He also took his time to check everything carefully, rather than rush the process, while taking thorough notes and photos.  The end result was a detailed and clear punch list report, which he prepared within 24 hours. <br />   <br /> We had planned to perform a radon test that day as well but unfortunately were unable to do so because of the amount of work still in progress on the house. We plan to have Morgan back both for the radon test and to check the results of the work on punch list items. <br />"

FAQs for radon gas abatement projects in South-Weymouth, MA

The only way to know whether your home or water supply contains radon is to schedule a professional test. A qualified radon inspector will collect samples, deliver lab-verified results, and explain the findings for $150 to $800. Once you know your exact levels, you and your radon mitigation pro can choose the right system and tackle the problem before it affects your family’s health.

Both roles tackle radon, but they focus on different steps. Inspectors test your home, interpret the results, and determine whether levels exceed EPA guidelines. Mitigation pros design and install the system that lowers those levels. Some companies do both, but the skills and equipment differ, so always verify that the person you hire is properly certified for the specific service you need.

Installing a mitigation unit fixes radon problems by reducing indoor gas levels to established safe standards. A system designed and installed by a mitigation expert, tailored to your home's specific layout and foundation, guarantees effective radon reduction. This expert installation ensures consistent performance over time while safeguarding your indoor air quality.

Open windows and doors do not reduce radon levels because they trigger a pressure imbalance that draws radon-laden air into your home. This practice fails to control radon concentration and can even worsen the issue. An active suction mitigation system provides a proven, safe, and effective solution to reliably reduce radon levels.

Radon mitigation systems generally last between 10 and 30 years, depending on system type and maintenance. Passive systems endure the longest because they have no moving parts, whereas active systems, which use a fan, require fan replacement every 5 to 10 years. System components, such as PVC pipes, seals, and fittings, can remain effective for decades when paired with periodic inspections and proper maintenance.

Radon mitigation systems consume between 300 and 3,000 kWh of electricity per year, depending on fan size and system design. On average, an active radon fan draws 100 to 300 watts continuously, which translates to roughly 876 kWh annually, and adds $30 to $300 to your energy bill each year. Choosing a high-efficiency fan and ensuring tight sealing around pipes helps minimize these ongoing costs.
