"I get them for everything they do. I know the owner personally, and I have used them for about fifteen years now off and on. They are not the cheapest folks in the world, but when they do a job, it is done right. I had some problems with one skylight outside the warranty period and the owner came out himself. He got up there, looked at it, and cleaned out some debris that had accumulated. He got a hose up, washed it down, and blew it all out. I never had a problem with it since, and that was two or three years after warranty. He assured me that it did not need replacing. They do not do unnecessary work. That impressed me. I like everything about their service and everything about their people. They are on time. They do what they say they are going to do. They are very conscientious. The workmen clean up after themselves. Anything you want out of a construction company, these guys do it well."

"<p>Over the past seven years Mr. Fix-it Home Services has performed major renovations and various small repairs on our home.  The quality of work and attention to details were exceptional.  He was able to resolve an issue with leakage around our chimney that a professional chimney service couldn't manage after a year of trying. We contracted Mr. Fix-it after a recommendation from a friend.  Mr. Fix-it has now remodeled the whole interior of our home, replaced the roof and undertaken numerous handyman jobs, always to our complete satisfaction.  Any minor issues with the work were resolved promptly.  He and his team are friendly and courteous.</p>"

"It was fantastic! They had a really organized crew. The guys set it up and knew exactly what they were to do, and they never missed anything. I called them and the gentleman came out and went over everything with me. He told me exactly what was going to happen and how it was going to happen. I had no problems at all. I priced them before and they were $1,000 cheaper than a couple of other bids that I got. The price was satisfactory, but I think they all charge too much."

"Jim from Windsor was very flexible when the hall bath was added on to the main kitchen job, and when we changed kitchen vendors after everything was all "set to go." Jim was always professional and is just a nice guy to work with. We also used Windsor about 5 years ago to finish our basement. We plan on using Windsor Construction again in the future."

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Spring-gap, MD

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
