"Can't say enough about Sagona Contracting. The office personnel and the crews in the field executing the designs were professional, respectful of us and the house/property, very knowledgeable and friendly. From the design to the finished product the experience was exceptionally positive. They were great at putting their knowledge to use in solving issues and problems, about what we wanted and what was feasible. Even suggesting options that might be less costly and still have the same effect at the end of the project. The Family Business Treats their Clients as just that, wanting to have the end product exceed your expectations. Tom and Kevin were on site throughout the project and the crews (too many to name) were very skilled at executing a great finished product with attention to the smallest detail. The combined experience and skill of the whole team was a very welcome aspect of the project, and we were very satisfied with the final outcome. JOB WELL DONE."

"Never came out to look at the job and went off of pictures. Quoted an insane price for refacing the crumbling steps but we reluctantly agreed. Then wanted an additional $6-7k for “unforeseen issues”. Tried to tell him no and now they want to sue us. $21+k for a job that after the fact the most expensive quote I got was under $10k for a complete replacement instead of a resurfacing like they proposed for over $20k! I’m willing to pay him for the work that they did but that’s not good enough apparently."

"The project took much longer than expected to finish because there was a shortage in supplies. As soon as the supplies arrived, Ekram’s team resumed the work right away and worked through cold winter days to complete the project. Ekram is responsive to our requests. The workers are also friendly and professional although they needed reminders to keep the work areas clean sometimes."

Kevin Dulio has been involved in the landscape industry for over 20 years. He was interested in horticulture in high school and decided to make it his career. While studying horticulture at Delaware Valley College, he worked at two garden centers to increase his knowledge of plant material. After graduating in 2000 with a B.S. in Ornamental Horticulture & Environmental Design, he managed a garden center in Sussex County, New Jersey. After a few years, he then became a branch manager for a landscape management firm in Warren County, New Jersey. In 2006, Kevin decided it was time to take his years of knowledge and experience in landscape management and start Native Fields Landscaping, LLC. Since his background was in landscape design, he decided to focus his business design/build and lawn maintenance. As the housing market took a downward turn, he regrouped and focused on lawn maintenance in order to control the rising costs of running a business. After six years being in business, Native Fields Landscaping, LLC is now specializing in the maintenance and snow/ice management of HOA (Home Owner Associations) in Morris, Warren, Sussex and Passaic Counties New Jersey for over 2,500 townhome units.

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Staten Island, NY

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
