"This is a review specifically for the work crew - Rafael Garcia, Jose Lovato, and Wilton Mendoza. Once my maintenance visit was scheduled, this group communicated clearly, worked diligently to address an installation problem, and went above and beyond to improve the drainage issues of my sump pump. Bravo for this crew!"

"I hired Alex three years ago to stop the water from coming into our Florida room. After going threw four other contractors he was the only one that took care of the problem. Now we hired him again 7/19/18 to take care of the water coming into our basement. He sent out Tyrik, Corey, Nathan, Casey J;mony, Cody and Joe. They were very professional and and kept informing my husband of the progress they were making. At the end Tyrik explained everything they did and told us if we are not happy with any of the work they will fix it right now."

"I was referred to this company to complete the work on my septic system after I had an extremely bad experience with another company.  I dealt with Darren from the beginning.  He came to our house and gave us a feel for how much the work would cost and how many trees would have to be removed.  He put us in contact with a tree removal company so we could get the work done without any hiccups.  <br /> The guys showed up after the trees were removed and started working right away.  While they were working I noticed one line that was 10" off from where it needed to be and they fixed it right away.  They got the new system installed in 3 days and put the yard back the way it was from the start.  <br /> My only complaint would be that the workers were not very good at communicating.  I asked for them to tell me when they were dropping the lid on the old tank and when it was okay to start using the water/facilities again.  They did not communicate either of these events.  I still give them an overall A because they were so good at the work. <br />"

"Workers came to do the job the day after we signed the contract because of an ongoing slow leak into our finished basement. They performed the work neatly, efficiently and quickly and even installed a popup drain for the downspout, which had not been included in the original estimate, at no extra cost. Months later, the basement remains dry and the dehumidifier no longer must run constantly."

"The crew arrived on the date/time promised. They were polite, professional, and worked non-stop (except for 2 short breaks and lunch). Because of my landscaping, the crew determined the best way to get to the bottom of the foundation was to dig a hole—24” x 8’. It was truly impressive—perfectly squared off. They sealed the wall, replaced the dirt, and replaced decorative stone. They then installed a 50’ French drain—trenching, refilling the trench, and removing excess debris. The crew worked as a team, did a top-notch job, and left the job sites better than they found them. It took them 4 days—and they never wavered from an extraordinary work ethic. That was last week. This week? We’ve had torrential downpours and flooding—but my basement and garage are dry. I’d hire them again in a heartbeat."

"Excellent work and customer service. Would definitely recommend this company. All waterproofing work is expensive, but they offer complete renovation services. Out project was just awful - water in the wall, then they found termites (!) and asbestos in our floor tile & mastic. Basement Detectives worked with us through every issue. They told us what needed to be done, coordinated with other contractors as needed (for our project, a plumber to remove a radiator, and a pest control company and asbestos removal). After the demolition, and the drain and pump install, they put up walls and painted and cleaned everything up. Very professional staff. All we did was get new carpet installed (although they offered to arrange for that, too). We are very pleased with their work. Many thanks to Anthony, Carlos, Jake and Chris."

"It was a water intake from the Arlington County in to the house. Water was leaking underground, and it was important to take care of that quickly. They came and dug up the lawn and replaced it with copper pipe, which solved the problem. They did a pretty good job. They are a father-son duo. The son was the on-site manager and did a lot of the work himself. My experience with them was fine. I was impressed with them."

"I did a competition on replacing our basement door, reviewing both the solution for a Signet Door and including price installed. After reviewing several solutions from several top rated companies, we decided that On the Level Contracting (OTL) (Peter Psihas) had the best solution for the outside trim with a 12 9/16” Frame Depth. I than went to the 3 lowest bidders (including OTL) with the final configuration to ensure everyone was bidding on the same configuration. After receiving the 3 final bids from top rated companies, OTL had the lowest price. After Peter ordered the door from ProVia, Peter provided me the estimated date he would be receiving the door from Provia. When the door was received Peter notified me and worked with me to schedule the installation date based upon our availability. The installation team from OTL arrived in the schedule time, verified they had the correct door prior to starting the work and did an excellent job installing the replacement door. Peter can to our house prior to the job being completed to ensure I was satisfied and went over the warranty information. Prior to signing the final contract, I talked to Peter about providing the Aluminum and replacing the Aluminum Capping to the side of the garage door that was dented. Peter and his father (George) replaced the capping matching the bends exactly to the top and the other side. I highly recommend using OTL.!!!"

FAQs for basement drainage channels installation projects in Stephens City, VA

Expect a well-built French drain to last 30 to 40 years. By channeling both surface- and ground-water away from your foundation, the system relieves hydrostatic pressure and helps prevent costly structural damage. Choose a pipe with a quality cloth filter to keep sediment out and extend the drain’s life. A quick annual inspection and routine cleanouts will keep water flowing freely, ensuring the system continues to protect your home for years to come.

Most French drains sit two feet below grade, but depth ultimately depends on the problem you’re solving. For puddling rainwater or snowmelt, a shallow curtain drain at lawn level often does the trick. To handle rising groundwater, pros dig deeper, down to the footing, and run the pipe beneath the basement slab. A drainage contractor will determine the optimal depth for your specific soil conditions and water issues.

A properly installed interior French drain captures water at the slab, channels it to a sump pit, and directs it safely outside, preventing basement floods before they occur. Because the pipe sits just under the floor edge, a plumber can reach it easily for cleaning or repairs. Pairing the drain with a reliable sump pump gives you the best long-term protection.

Hire a contractor who installs drainage systems every day—typically a foundation specialist, drainage contractor, experienced landscaper, or plumber with waterproofing experience. These pros understand slope, soil, and local codes, and they have the equipment to trench safely around utilities. Ask for references and photos of recent jobs to be sure they can design a system that keeps water off your foundation for decades.

Once the drain is in, patch the yard by reseeding bare spots or replacing plants the crew removed. Inside, look for ways to add value—finishing the basement or upgrading interior waterproofing while the space is open often costs less now than later. Schedule a quick annual checkup to flush sediment and confirm the pipe and sump pump are clear. Consistent maintenance ensures the drain functions properly and protects your investment.

Most policies don’t cover the cost of repairing a French drain itself, but they may provide coverage for water damage if the system fails. Coverage varies by insurer, so be sure to read the fine print or contact your agent before any issues arise. If you live in a high-risk flood zone, consider a separate flood policy to close the gap. Knowing your coverage in advance helps you budget for repairs and avoid unexpected costs.
