"We had two chimney caps replaced as well as new logs and ashes for two gas fireplaces. Pat, Ben, and Kyle were friendly and polite. Everything went well and everything was clean when they left. The reason for the "B" grade in responsiveness is because we had to follow-up with them between their first visit for the estimate and the second visit to do the work. The "B" for price is just because it seems high, but we didn't have another estimate to compare to."

"The Problem: I had a leak in my living room ceiling. I thought I needed the chimney repointed. I could not find a contractor on Angies List search who does that kind of work. I wrote to AL’s member services. They gave me a list of contractors. I selected A-Advanced Chimney Service. They were the only ones who specifically listed that as a service. The Inspection: They came and did a free inspection. They determined the Chimney Chase Cover was rusted with holes allowing water to enter. It needed to be replaced. They also offered “Flash Seal” a tar like sealant for the flashing. And “Chimney Saver” a clear water repellent sealer for the brick. I agreed to their estimate for everything. It also included a Chimney Cap. The Work: The work was done in one day. Tony the installer is very experienced and knowledgeable. I was surprised. Tony climbed up on the roof at about 11:00am and didn’t come down until around 5:00pm. The Execution: - The Chimney Cap is not plumb. It leans like the leaning tower of Pisa. I didn’t notice this until much later. - There was little cleanup. Months later I’m still finding screws and pieces of some tarred mesh material on the ground. - When Tony and his helper Tim arrived for the inspection they tore apart a sofa cushion. They needed it’s foam to keep from slipping on the roof. They didn’t remove all the padding. To this day I have white pieces of padding stuck to the roof shingles. - I called the manager Denise about this a couple of times. The first time she said she would send Tony over to fix the leaning cap and clean up. Tony never showed. Now with the Covid-19 situation she says she’ll send Tony over when things return to normal. - Lastly, during the install Tony needed a 1/4” drill screw driver. His was worn. I loaned him one. I didn’t get it back. Not a big deal but the rest of this is totally unsatisfactory. The Result: The ceiling no longer leaks."

"When it rains on the inside of your fireplace, you have a problem. My chimney crown had several cracks that needed to be sealed. I called a few chimney repair companies and in the end decided to go with Holy Smokes Chimney Service. I found the owner, Waylon, an honest and forthright person who seemed to really care about my situation. He came to my home and gave me a quote the day I called him, and then proceeded to tell me he was going to put a tarp over my chimney with no pressure to use his services while I investigated other companies. I was impressed with that and his overall knowledge and experience. Waylon was back with his assistant within two weeks to clean and waterproof the bricks, seal the crown, and install a new chimney cap. They also blew the leaves off the roof, walks, and driveway. What a relief to finally get this done, and at a fair price. I couldn’t be more pleased with Holy Smokes Chimney Service, and highly recommend them. Thank you Waylon!"

"Mr. Greg Elrod did a fantastic job. Emailed Greg a few days ago to get an estimate on a chimney sweep. Very responsive via email and we were able to mutually agree on a date and time. Greg called the morning of the sweep, about 40 minutes before arrival to confirm. Arrived on time. Very personable guy.. Prepared the work area, as not to cause any mess, and proceeded to clean out the fire box and chimney. I had requested an inspection of the brick chimney as well, as it had not been attended to for some time.He did a GREAT job with no mess. Gave me a quick overview of what he saw and what he would recommend to be repaired. He is going to email me an estimate and I would assume, as long as the price is not too expensive, we will be using Mr. Elrod once again. <br /> I could not be happier with Greg's service and overall knowledge and professionalism. The job, as mentioned above, was done in a very efficient and clean manner and spot on the estimate. "Matt and Andrew were prompt and very professional. They carefully moved furniture, covered rugs, protected flooring, wore booties inside the house, and then put everything back when they were done.  <br /> <hr /> Of the 6 fireplaces in the house, 3 had pilot lights with gas log sets, 1 had a gas log set and the other 2 were wood-burners with a gas starter. On the pilot light sets, they removed and cleaned the glass doors, removed and cleaned the logs, vacuumed out dust, checked fittings and valves for leaks, checked the switches and explained to me how everything worked, including how to re-ignite the pilot, turn everything off and on, etc. I had asked about a potential leak at a switch for one of the pilot-operated fireplaces, and Matt checked the chimney at the roof and made recommendations for follow-up with the roofer for a potential minor flashing issue. <br /> <hr /> The main gas log set in the family room was inspected and cleaned as well; they removed the logs and the old, crappy looking "ember" material and replaced with updated materials. Prior to their visit, it looked like a fake log fireplace with "insulation"...now it appears more like real logs, with more realistic looking embers that don't look like R 19 fell from the chimney and landed on the logs. Very pleased with how that one turned out; exceeded expectations. <br /> <hr /> The basement wood-burners were also inspected; the previous owner told us he used one of the fireplaces "every day"...well, he clearly never had it cleaned. EVER. After getting huge piles of creosote out of the flue, Matt recommended a follow-up chemical cleaning as the video inspection still showed caked on creosote in the flue. He also advised not to burn wood in that fireplace until further cleaning could be done due to the potential fire hazard. I had a feeling that fireplace was going to be bad (based on other lack-of-routine-maintenance things we discovered after purchasing the home), but not that bad.  <br /> <hr /> As other reviewers had mentioned, the cost of these services is not inexpensive. However, it was well worth the price to learn the proper operation of all fireplaces in the house (since they are gas appliances), as well as gaining the peace of mind that comes with knowing they are in good working order.
