"Even though they are a paving company, they contracted to dig several footings for a project. They showed up on time, but had to wait for some equipment they needed. Once they got started they worked diligently to complete the job. The workers were Conscientiousness and did a good job."

"I could not be happier with the result of the work done. They started on Wednesday and said it would be Friday or Monday before they finished. I let them know we had a party Friday night and as a result he came back and made sure it would be ready for then. That's dedication and commitment to your customers and their needs. The craftsmanship and final look is stunning - so glad we decided to do this project and hire Chaput for the job! I would highly recommend!"

"Very courteous, professional and prompt. After our new masonry retaining wall was installed, we hired this company again in September to lay sod, where heavy equipment had been used to access and remove our old retaining wall materials and shrubbery in our neighbor's backyard."

"We've had a muddy yard and water seepage since we bought the house thirty+ years ago. We finally decided enough was enough and went looking for drainage experts. We found TJB, and we're glad we did. Ted was knowledgeable, friendly, and extremely professional. He recommended installing a system of underground drains and grading the yard so water would be directed away from the house. As others have noted, he sent us a variety of literature describing the techniques he was going to use. As an arborist, he also helped us figure out which of our trees needed to be removed. (TJB doesn't do tree work.) One thing I always watch for is how much the boss trusts his crew. Ted and his son were confident enough not to micromanage their employees. As a certified sidewalk supervisor, I tell you that their trust was justified. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend TJB."

"Mr T's responded quickly to my request for a quote, scheduled very promptly, and completed work as agreed. They washed our shed at no extra charge and when I followed up to let them know that dark streaks from dirt behind the shuttles resulted from the washing, Bob was pleasant and responsive. They came back out and hit those spots again the same day. This is the fourth power wash company we have used. I recommend them and will definitely use again."

"Jeff explained what he was doing to each planting which was great since I have no experience with the flowers or shrubbery. I'm looking forward to see the flowers on the magnolia tree in the Spring, since the previous contractor did not trim it correctly and I was always disappointed at how few flowers it had."

"My experience with Real Dry was exceptional throughout the whole process. Last year, we were getting water in our basement whenever there was a heavy rain. Steve came and assessed the situation, and recommended digging wells around our basement windows and door and filling them with gravel for better drainage straight down (rather than toward the house/windows). We initially talked about also digging a well in the front of the house, where water would pool due to our lack of gutters and then come in through the foundation. So the initial estimate included all of that. When Steve arrived on the actual day with his crew, I told him that I didn't think we needed to have a well in the front of the house because I was planning on getting gutters and that should take care of that. He adjusted the estimate accordingly with absolutely no hassle. The work itself was done quickly and professionally and the basement has been bone dry ever since, despite some incredibly heavy rain. I HIGHLY recommend this company for basement waterproofing projects."

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Suffield, CT

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
