"I needed the work done today. Although he was on another job, he was at my house as soon as he was done there. He clearly explained how he was going to diagnose finding a hidden water leak and provided a cost estimate. As the job progressed, any changes to the work, he clearly explained why and any estimate modification. He finished the diagnostic task and explained the next steps of insurance involvement and what my options were. He did professional work and communicated very well. I plan to hire him on my next project."

"Kurt and Dave introduced themselves, suited up, and listened to our concerns. They offered sound advice on maintaining a septic system, solved the sewer gas smell by explaining what we should do to maintain the system (they did not have to do any plumbing work on the toilet), then took some time to walk the property, crawl under the house, and probe to accurately identify the location of the septic tank. They were professional, friendly, and explained everything they were doing and what WE should do as home owners. My husband and I were very pleased with the service and advice. When it is time to have our septic system pumped we will use Powell's Plumbing. And, if we have any plumbing issues at all we will call Powell's Plumbing. We thought the price for the service call was very reasonable. Because we found this firm through Angie's List we had a 10% coupon. We Highly recommend Powell's Plumbing."

"They had been out like ten days before, and the issue expanded. I paid eight hundred dollars two weeks before, did not get me anywhere with the five thousand dollar repair. Just disappointed that the inspection and work which was done within an month prior, did not capture the problem. It ended up being so expensive for that visit."

"I picked Master Dry because they were decently rated on Angie's list but mostly because they were available. (Many people had flooding issues after this storm, and one major company I called said they couldn't even do an estimate for two weeks!) I supplied my contact information to the Master Dry person on the phone, letting her know I was not physically at the house (a rental) and asking for advance notice of any workers' arrival so I could have time to drive to meet them at the house.
The next day, I got a phone call from the Master Dry office saying the workers were at the house and no one was home. Fortunately, when I contacted the workers directly, they agreed to wait for my arrival after saying no one had told them to call ahead or given them any contact information. Two men, one clearly a new trainee, checked things out and said they should be able to do the remediation over the weekend, even though it was Memorial Day weekend. I did not get an estimate. (I attribute not noticing that and not asking for a written one to my panicked state.)
On Saturday, the workers did call ahead to let me know they were able to begin the work, which they did: removing wet drywall and paneling and doors. One of the three people working was a middle aged, overweight woman who left exhausted well before the end of the first day, taking with her the truck that was supposed to haul away debris. The debris sat in the side yard of the house for two more days before being removed. The remaining two workers did stack it reasonably neatly as out of the way as possible. They sprayed everything with an organic antimicrobial solution and placed 10 large fans and a very large dehumidifier in the basement, saying they would run for 3 days and that I should then wait for an additional 3 days before beginning repairs. They finished and left at 5 pm on Saturday. On Thursday, the fans were still going with no word from Master Dry to me. By then I had informed my insurance company of the incident, and when I told my agent the remediation was still ongoing, the insurance company sent a representative from a Master Dry competitor to measure moisture left in the basement. They found it to be dry enough to begin repairs. Also, someone who had retired from doing this type of work happened to visit the house during that period, and ventured the opinion that 5 fans would have been enough for such a compact space. This matters since the fans bill at $30 each per day.
I notified Master Dry to finish the job. The woman I spoke with was defensive, denied it had been 5 days (this was late on Thursday), and informed me that, since I was stopping too soon, they would not guarantee the remediation. On the plus side, I got a quick response and a dry basement. The lead worker was knowledgeable, pleasant and proficient, and explained everything to me. The damaged drywall and paneling was also cut out in a way that left neat edges, facilitating repair. Interestingly, in keeping with the phone denial, they ended up only billing me for 4 days, not 5, even though they did not pull the equipment until midday Friday. I am left to wonder, however, how long the fans would have run and been billed for had the duration not been challenged. Hence my hesitation to use them again or recommend them.
"

"First of all, they could not have been nicer and I feel bad giving a bad report. The person setting up the appointment and the technicians who did the work were very nice and professional in their behavior. I think part of the problem is actually Angie's List and how it is being utilized by providers. But, there is no way that a new toilet flap should have cost me $230.00.
I bought an Angie's List special deal for getting my toilets tuned up for $89.00 because one of my toilets was running for about 15 second every hour.
When I set up the appointment, I told them there was only one toilet and that it had been a problem in the past because it is not a typical toilet. It is an American Standard toilet from Home Depot but evidently, but it has an unusual 3 inch flapper.
The technician came to my house and said, "I don't have a part for this toilet" but , he replaced the shut off float and said we would see if that solved the problem. By the end of the day, it was obvious that this did not fix the problem.
Dun-Rite offered that I could find the part and they would install it for $125.00 or, they could supply the part and still install it for $125.00. I am not a plumber and I have no knowledge of plumbing parts, so I elected to let them do it. It took a couple of weeks for them to get the part.
They finally got it done yesterday and it seems to be holding. I don't think they should have charged me the additional $125.00 because they did not fix the problem on the first visit, there should have been some guarantee for their work. But, as anyone living in the Washington DC area knows, getting someone to work in your house on a small repair can be a nightmare, so I went with the company that had started the repair instead of undergoing the stress of finding a new company and have them start the entire process again.
I will think very carefully before I take any more Angie's List special deals because I think I could have saved money by requesting a free estimate instead, which a lot of companies offer.
"
