"Mike did an excellent job on this project. This was the 3rd time that I have hired him for some masonry projects, and he has never disappointed me. His pricing is fair, he is very dependable, and does excellent work. I highly recommend Mike Perry Masonry for any of your masonry projects."

"Went to pick out stone that matched what we had used several years ago. They did not have the exact stone, but showed us a stone that was very close. Ordered the suggested amount for the project on a Friday, and it was delivered on the next Tuesday. The stone matched what we had in the yard beautifully. We did have about half the stone left over, and I called to schedule a pickup. The remaining stone was picked up within the week, and we were credited for the amount we did not use. As always, our experience with the Stone Center was excellent. We will definitely use them again -- great job!"

"I would recommend them for any landscaping needs 100%. I would think that any professional landscaping company would have a working knowledge of how to make a garden or yard dog or cat friendly, but they seemed to be operating on "street knowledge". That's my only complaint. I can't be the only person out there that has those concerns for their pets. They were professional and fixed the issues I asked them to, and I would recommend them again."

"Initially, we needed 3 retaining walls and a large wooden deck replaced. We also wanted new landscaping put into place. Rather than replacing the walls and deck with similar construction, Jonathan suggested replacing the creekstone walls with engineered retaining walls, and instead of another wooden deck, install a paver patio. We spent several months finalizing the design specifications, and Jonathan worked with us to find materials, features, and plants which would meet our desires. His staff is very experienced with the construction of these engineered hardscapes. They are a very hard working group. The final product is a masterpiece and greatly exceeds our original expectations. We are so pleased with the outcome, and would not hesitate to use Jonathan and his crew in the future. Thank you Jonathan for giving our home the curb appeal we have always dreamed of."

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Taylorsville, KY

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
