"NexGen installed metal roof in main house and asphalt singles for the garage, and I really enjoyed the process and was very happy with my new roof. Upon their suggestion, we also re-did the siding of attics, the fascia (custom bent aluminum capping), as well as gutter replacement to meet the requirements of metal roofing. The roofing and surroundings are look really nice. I found NexGen based on Angi’s recommendation. After talked to three contractors, I felt that they had the most experiences with metal roofing, very knowledgeable about the service and product, and the pricing was reasonable. The project took about a month to complete, and I had no regret to have them installed the roofing and accessories. After signed the contract, the project started with a welcome letter, which detailed the steps and the manager to be responsible for each step. I received text messages and emails ahead of time for the coming events, such as selecting the materials/colors, signing the documents, delivery of the dumpster truck or roofing materials, or crews coming for daily works, etc. Whenever I have questions and concerns, I either sent the text or call, the manager would be back to me very quickly. Not only the managers were very professional, but also the crew. After removing the old roofing, the underneath was carefully inspected, and damaged plywood was replaced. They made sure that the new installed metal panels were well protected when reaching over for the sidings installation. They always cleaned up after a long day of work, no matter how late it was. Due to the structure of my house, which there were a lot of details surrounding fascia and frieze board, they were patient to go through for capping, and it probably required much more work than initially planned, so they even came during the weekend to get it done. Overall, I am very happy with the project and would consider NexGen for other projects or recommend to others."

"Daniel and his team blew us out of the water. From day 1, Daniel was incredibly responsive. He was the only person to answer the phone when I called to get a quote, and the responsiveness never stopped. He sent the quote in the promised timeline, updated it per our request, and sent us a tentative timeline. Once we hired Daniel, he was in contact whenever needed. Any time I had a question he called or emailed within a few hours. He was able to save us a fairly substantial amount of money by communicating with us about storage of deck materials. He stored the materials at our house for less than a month because material costs were rising and to re-order later would have cost us much more. Once the project was underway, the guys arrived bright and early every day. They had the old deck torn down and the first inspection done in under 6 hours. The rebuild took another 5 days and was completely worth it. Daniel checked every board and meticulously reviewed all of the work. Anything done improperly (by accident of course) was pulled up or redone. He checked in for all decisions and we could not be more happy with how the deck turned out. The team cleared every piece of trash from the deck and the yard and even scrubbed our new deck down when they were done to get all the mud and dirt off so it was ready for us to enjoy. We will be keeping Daniel in mind for any future work we need done on our house and would recommend him to anyone in a heartbeat."

Customers say: Quick response

"Getting our deck replaced was such a pleasant experience with Champion Deck Pro. The owner, Todd Champion, was prompt, courteous, and very knowledgeable. What we thought was going to be a rebuild, after our low deck collapsed on one side, ended up being a replacement because everything underneath was rotten and poorly constructed. Todd and his crew stayed within the same time frame even though they had to pour new footers. The price adjustment was surprisingly reasonable and the finished deck looks amazing! We are looking forward to their return this spring to stain the wood to match our HOA requirements. We highly recommend this company! "

FAQs for deck or porch projects in Thorndale, PA

To maximize your budget, compare quotes of several builders that fit within your specifications. Don’t be afraid to draw a wider geographic circle if the contractor is willing to travel without charging more. But affordability only matters if you get a quality deck out of it.

Cutting corners or simply finding the cheapest pro could result in significant problems. The materials used may be cheap and rot quickly. The support the surface provides might be unstable and dangerous. Always consider the long-term costs and benefits of quality work. Paying less upfront may actually be more expensive if you consider the cost of repairs.

Deciding on which materials you should use depends entirely on the type of deck you’re looking for. Composite works well for a simple surface exposed to harsh elements, while concrete is the standard choice for many patios. Your decking material options can range from wood to aluminum. Learn about the pros and cons of these materials to make the right decision.

You can build a deck during any season, which is why choosing the right time for this project depends on your preferences:

  • Spring: get your deck ready in time for landscaping and to enjoy it throughout the warmer seasons.

  • Summer: use spring for the planning process, then get the project ready before it gets cold out.

  • Fall: Limit turf or landscape damage by building once most plants begin to recede.

  • Winter: make the excavation process easier, thanks to cold and firm ground.

Many deck builders prefer winter, which is also the season with the shortest waiting queues. Still, other seasons are far from impossible for this type of project.

Expect a thorough examination of the space, and the development of a project schedule. Delivery of materials might already have occurred or could be planned at this point.

Additional research about working with deck builders can help you understand what to expect from experts, and what they expect from you.

Make sure the site of the deck or patio is clear of any landscaping and debris. The contractor will also call a utilities locator service to mark power, water, cable, and other services around the area where they will be digging. The cleaner the area your builder has to work with, the more quickly they can get started. Make sure they have space to park any construction vehicles. Find a dry space for materials that might need storage during the install. Finally, ensure clear access to the site through your house or property.

When it comes to the DIY vs. hire a pro decision for your deck, the answer tends to be clear. Only take it on yourself if you have significant expertise and experience. Without either, you risk building a faulty exterior space, leading to injury risks. Projects built without necessary expertise also break more quickly, making them more expensive in the long run.

If you do want to take on decking as a DIY project, be sure to do your research. Learn about installing the posts and footing for your framing. Understand how to lay decking boards and build the railings and stairs you need for access and security.
