"We have hired WB Paving to do 2 residential driveways for us in the past year -- one in Milford, the other in Ocean View and they did a wonderful job both times. The first was a resurface and repair of a large, old asphalt driveway. The second was a replacement of a large semi-circular stone driveway. Tom Baker was responsive, professional, and timely with his work. He was also very communicative since we could not be on-site for either job. He called with questions and updates, sending photos along the way, keeping us informed. Both driveways are beautiful and expertly done. He communicated so easily via cell calls and texts -- even handling contracts digitally. Two wonderful experiences!"

"DDC was hired to clear and grade a building site. Exceeded my expectations. Was on time and done before schedule. After building was erected the team was back to finish grade, seed and straw, and repair rock lane. Would and have recommended DDC for any earth moving job. "

"We were supposed to inspect our granite and decide how we wanted our countertops layed out. We visited Absolute and were told that the granite was not at their warehouse so we could select how the granite should be cut. We had paid a $500 deposit months before to hold the granite. When informed that the granite was ready to install we were told that we had to find someone to install supports on the bar top before the granite could be installed (10 inch overhang needs support). Absolute provide no assistance with this until we forced the issue. Absolute told us it was our problem - they only install the granite. The installers were fine however they told me that the supports for the bar top were not the preferred supports and the bar countertop had to be installed with shims under the bar top to make it level. This could have been avoided if Absolute also installed the supports for the bartop - they are the granite experts - not me - the homeowner. Installation was OK but the finish of the granite surface has many small holes and defects and in some areas are rough. Research informed me that the granite surface was not finished properly because the surface should be smooth. Overall I was not happy with the service or product from Absolute. I had another granite countertop installed when I lived in another state and the finished product and service was much better."

"Juan Carlos, the President, was punctual, courteous and professional. When he came to my home for the consultation, he described (and showed me pictures of) my options and I ended up paying a little more to upgrade the materials and pattern for the walkway. On the day of installation -- which was a few days earlier than originally anticipated -- Juan Carlos and his crew were punctual, polite and friendly and it took only 4 or 5 hours to complete the work. They went above and beyond in removing my old paver stones and putting them where I requested in my back yard (although that wasn't part of what I had contracted for), and did a beautiful job on the installation. During the installation, they laid down additional gravel and sand and protective barrier before they installed the pavers. Then they smoothed everything out, made the height from the walkway to the front porch safer and a more comfortable stepping distance (the step from the porch to the walkway before was so high it could be dangerous, and they fixed it without even mentioning that they were going to do so, and without charging me extra for it), and applied a cement-type product to make the pavers stick solidly together. Before they left, they added additional mulch to the planter beds next to the walkway, which matched the mulch I already had down, then raked it all smooth (which, again, wasn't specified in my contract but they did it anyway). They also cleaned up all of the debris from the work and rolled up my garden hose and placed it back where I normally store it. I would definitely recommend Sylca Inc."

"I called to get an estimate to repair 3 chimneys and some deteriorating mortar on my brick city town home. Brian got back to me promptly and scheduled a time to evaluate what I need. He quickly got back to me with a reasonable estimate and I scheduled the work to be done. The work was completed within a couple weeks and appears to be done very well. Throughout the process Brian was very professional and friendly. Communication throughout the process was great and the results look awesome. Would use again and/or recommend. <br />"

"Contacted on Monday and Sam came out within hours and gave me an estimate that was about $1000 below other estimates. Very professional and knowledgeable. Came out the same week and completed the job. The job looks great and Sam who is the owner personally stopped by during the job to see if we were satisfied. <br /> Overall I would give them an A+ <br />"

"We have a very long driveway. I requested quotes from three providers. The Sureseal Rep, Jeff, was here within 48 hours and provided a quote slightly higher than the others. We chose this company because they do not spray the coating -- they brush it on. They also treat the cracks several days before sealing the drive. I believe they provided a better quality job. The hardest part was scheduling. Our schedule and theirs didn't mesh, but within a few weeks the job was done and done well. Their three men were here on time, were very thorough and neat. I will definately use them again in the future!"

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Middletown, DE

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
