"John was an easy-going person to work with. I could tell right away that he knew exactly what he was doing. He made recommendations to do a skim coat and gave it a day to cure. The next day he installed the tile and gave it another day to cure. The thi..."

"George came out personally to give me a quote for installing a top coat of 2" of asphalt on my existing asphalt driveway, which was wavy and had a number of dips and holes in it. The morning of the install, George's crew showed up early and got to work. They were clean and very well organized, and the final product looks terrific. I finally have a flat, properly sloped driveway!"

"Excellent work performed by Mata Paving. Our existing driveway was torn out completely and replaced. Belgium block was installed on both sides of the driveway and we had work done to our window well, at the same time. The work was done efficiently and with genuine care. This company prides itself on doing top notch work and it shows in our driveway. We received an extremely fair price and feel fortunate to have a company that puts in extra effort to beautify others' homes. Our time frame was also kept in mind, and the owner made sure we had our driveway done by the time we requested. Great advice was given along the way and communication with the other was never an issue, as calls were always picked up and/or returned immediately. We would recommend Mata Paving, hands down, for your next job, You will not be disappointed."

"We purchased a house that was 20 years old. We needed our concrete walkway repaired, as it sank over a period of several years, leaving the distance between steps as a safety hazard. Brian and his crew assessed the situation and did an amazing job. Besides replacing the entire concrete walkway, they also installed a railing. They did another railing in the back of the house and installed a new mailbox as well. 2 days in and we've had many compliments on both the mailbox and walkway. Another neighbor has already asked if HMD is willing to do their mailbox. No job to small (or big, as I believe they're used to doing much larger jobs in the metro area). They also kept our property and surrounding area clean. They loaded equipment and materials in and out, and it was a "busy site" for a couple of days, but when they cleaned up, you would never know they were there, except for the quality craftsmanship they left behind. The front of our house looks better than ever."

"Overall a pleasant and professional experience. Final price was in line with advertisement and quoted price, no surprises or up-charges. Good selection of materials to choose from and excellent turn around time from templeting to installation. Installers showed up on time and were very professional, knowledgeable, and respectful of their surroundings. I would definitely use this company again and recommend them."

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Trenton, NJ

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
