"National Radon Defense Midwest employees were very knowledgeable and helpful. As we were selling our house we discovered that we had high radon readings and needed to mitigate the problem. They explained to us the process and clearly identified what they would recommend to resolve the issue. We thought it was very reasonably priced and feel confident intheir products, staff and installation"

"Michael was punctual, polite and informative. He sent over the inspection the same day with thorough information. He found a number of items we missed that were right in front of us. He has a tool to check everything you would need from electrical, gas, and insulation. He was even able to show us how well the house was insulated with thermal imaging which was very nice!"

"<p>it was superb! they easiest, hassle free Radon test in town, with extremely proficient people -- very knowledgeable and very people-friendly! they took their time to explain things on the phone to me before I committed. the test came back within 10 days or so -- via email. which is very convenient. it was very clear as it is, but I like talking through it and get advice. they were instantly available to discuss. they gave me future tips to keep on top of all things Radon related. </p> <p>I have to say that all this comes to be after 3 months of many back and forths with 3 other companies -- none of the other companies could be bothered to schedule a time, and those who did, never showed up.. many times over. I don't know why I was so patient with them and I wish had discovered Environmental Testing & Research Laboratories much sooner.</p> <p>Really highly recommend them!</p> <br />"

"Everything went well. They showed up on time, were very professional and completed the job that day. The radon test after installation got my air quality down significantly (same as the outside air)."

"The installer found an inconspicuous place to put the piece that vents to the outside--we were pleased about that. Another employee brought a test kit a few weeks after the work was done (arrived 1/2 hour early, as we were unloading groceries--not too convenient, he was obviously anxious to be done on a Friday-- and we were to leave it in the basement for the weekend. He was to return on Monday to pick it up. He was quite late so I called him, sounded like he forgot. But he came within a 1/2 of my call and took care of it."

"Excellent - after the results were back the system was installed and running within days with little disturbance to my home. They moved anything that had to be moved and replaced when they were done. He has been back twice to check levels (at no addition charge) because he wanted to get the level lower if possible even though it was well below acceptable levels. He is truly concerned about the dangers of radon and wants to educate people and help people remove this danger if needed. I was so pleased I actually have hired him to check all my childrens homes and install systems if needed."

"He did a pretty good job, showed up when he said he would. We noticed that when we had a lot of rain the sump pump wasn't working, we called a plumber and he stated there was a misplaced cord (wrapped around something and it prevented the sump pump from starting properly). Called Heartland Radon Management and he came back same day to seal it.   <br /> <br />"

FAQs for radon gas testing projects in Truro, IA

Radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the U.S. The gas seeps through cracks in foundations and collects in basements and other low areas. Once you breathe it in, radioactive particles lodge in lung tissue and do long-term damage. Because you can’t see or smell radon, the EPA recommends testing your home every two years—and after major renovations—to keep your family safe.

Yes—every home should be tested. The EPA advises doing it at least every two years and any time you remodel, buy, or sell. On average, one in 15 houses nationwide sits above the recommended limit, and the only way to know where yours stands is a formal test. The equipment simply measures gas levels and won’t change your indoor environment, so the process is completely harmless.

Certified radon professionals—often home inspectors or dedicated radon mitigation contractors—handle testing. These radon testing professionals follow EPA protocols and use calibrated instruments to check levels throughout your house. Hiring a certified radon specialist means results you can trust for real estate deals, insurance requirements, and, most importantly, your family’s health.

Inspectors specialize in measuring radon gas levels, while licensed mitigation contractors design and install the systems that remove it. If your test comes back high, your inspector can point you to a qualified mitigation pro who will size and install the right fan, piping, or other equipment to bring levels down.

No—standard home air purifiers don’t touch radon. They’re built to trap dust and pollen, not radioactive gas. If testing shows high levels, you’ll need a dedicated mitigation system that vents the gas from beneath your home to the outdoors. Relying on a room purifier alone won’t keep your indoor air safe.

Opening a few windows in your home might dilute radon for a short time, but the gas seeps back in as soon as they’re closed. For a lasting fix, you’ll need a professional mitigation system—often a sub-slab depressurization fan—that pulls radon from beneath the foundation and safely vents it outside.
