"Very pleased with quality of work. Drywall repairs are perfect and cannot be detected. Two coats of paint on ceiling and walls. There were many windows. No paint on woodwork. Very professional! Two days and they were done!"

"my first call was answered within fifteen minutes and he came the next day and gave me an estimate but couldn't give me a start time because of works in progress and the constant rainy weather.  He called me the next day with the price which i thought was good as was the quality of the materials he showed me the day before.   I accepted over the phone and said i'd wait until he could do it. I like the fact that he did the work himself, had pictures of jobs he had done and was very forthright.   A few weeks later I arrived home to find him and a helper dismanteling the existing fence.  They removed every trace of it, dug up the concrete post holes and hauled everthing away.  After that they came back laid out a new fence, dug new post holes and installed new post anchored in concrete three feet down.  the following day they were finished.  everything was cleaned up so well that you wouldn't have known they were there.  great job, great service, hard working guys.  We also signed a contract for the work and there was a warranty on the material.   He told me if there were any problems to give him a call.   I was lucky to get them."

"Roof crew arrived but was not aware of contract. They repaired rotting plywood and applied quality shingles. The contract called for water/ice dam protection on all wall joints. This was not done, so they had to come back  to fix. Attempts to inform crew in-progress of their mistake was not possible due to language barrier.  However, Blakeslee was extremely responsive every issue, with appropriate fixes.  Gutters and covers went without any issues, and are quality products.  Their attention to  customer satisfaction without any hesitation are what make  my overall experience so high. <br />"

"Todd was very nice and very willing to work with us. His own skills and work were very good he did have people working for him that did not share his work ethic. He did have to redo a few things that they left unfinished.  He did so without hesitation. Overall we are pleased with the job and feel Todd is good at what he does."

"The roofing repair went well, and then I asked Mr. Evans to come to another city where I owned another home that we were remodeling and needed to sell soon. We needed some electrical ,and plumbing work done . I asked if he was licensed to do that. He replied that " he was". I inquired about city permits, and was told that "I did NOT need any- as this was a minor repair, not a complete rewiring job". Having dealt with the city before, I KNEW that was not right, as permits ARE required for ALL work done by contractors in the city. I then asked him if he was registered with our state. He replied that he was. I checked online, and found nothing under the company name of American Contracting. I DID find his name under another company name- J.E. Improvements. However, this registration did NOT list electrical, or plumbing. When I told him what I had learned- he said that he would simply call the state and ask them to add the two categories to his listing ! I was amazed that they would do such a thing over the phone, and called them myself. I was told that "anyone who is registered can call and add anything without submitting any proof of additional licenses". They told me I needed to check with my local city for licensing. I called the Scranton office of licensing and permits, and was told that " Mr. Evans is NOT licensed as either a plumber or electrican in Scranton". He had also told me that he installs and maintains furnaces and heating systems. He is not licensed to do that either in Scranton. He CAN do roofing and siding as that only requires a contractor to pull a permit, and he can get one since he is already registered with the state of PA. There were a couple other things that bothered me. First, he kept saying that he "preferred to be left alone when he worked" and that "we could just leave a key to the house and did not need to be there while the work was being done". Also, I had asked for estimates on painting and a new roof and possibly siding and was told that he "did not write estimates until the customer agreed verbally to a price, because it was a waste of time because some people didn't call him back". Upon checking, I found that he registered his company name as J.E. Improvements with the state on 7/23/2009, yet he did a job for someone on Angie's list in SEPT. 2009 under the name American Contracting. Under Pa. law , doing jobs under two or more company names MUST be reported to the state. I asked the state if they had any listing for American Contracting- they said "NO". Bottom line is this : Mr. Evans is a nice man, did a good job on our roof repair, but if you want him to work in Scranton, be aware that he is NOT licensed for electrical, plumbing or heating, and can NOT pull permits for that work. He CAN do roofing, siding and painting as I am told. permits can be obtained for those jobs as long as he can show his PA registration card and current insurance of $50,000 or more."

"They do a very quality work at a very good price. They are very punctual. They are on time. They did not leave the job till it was done. I am very satisfied with them. As a matter of fact, I had them back to do some electrical work for me. They did a lot of work that was not contracted, the extra work, when they saw a problem they fixed the plumbing and did not charge anything for it. They sort of went above and beyond."

FAQs for deck, fence, patio or porch clean and seal projects in Tunkhannock, PA

You should clean your deck before sealing it. Cleaning before refinishing is critical. If you don’t remove dirt and debris, you'll trap moisture in the wood, which prevents the new sealer from working correctly and can lead to costly repairs. Whether you need to sand, power wash, or sandblast depends on your deck's condition.

Sealing and staining your deck are essential maintenance methods that protect and beautify your outdoor space. Stain adds rich color and guards against fading, while sealant fortifies the wood against moisture and weather damage. Wood type, climate, deck age, and the degree of existing damage determine whether your deck benefits from one or both treatments. Using both options extends your deck’s durability and enhances its overall appearance.

Power washing and sealing your deck costs $500 to $1,700. This process combines the removal of stubborn dirt and debris with a protective seal that preserves the wood’s integrity. Effective cleaning eliminates harmful buildup, and a proper seal prevents moisture damage and wood decay, ensuring long-term durability and reducing future repair expenses.

Your deck must be sealed every one to three years to maintain its strength and appearance. Regular sealing is essential to protect the wood against moisture, mold, and harmful UV rays. A consistent sealing schedule prevents rapid deterioration and costly repairs. Inspections should be performed annually to determine if the protective layer remains intact, extending the life of your deck.

Leaving your deck untreated compromises its structural integrity and safety. An unprotected deck rots quickly due to moisture and environmental exposure, which means that neglecting sealing results in rapid decay and expensive replacement costs of $4,125 to $11,650. Sealing your deck is essential for maintaining its durability and protecting your home.

The sealant on your deck dries within a few hours and reaches full cure within 72 hours before regular use. It is essential to wait until the complete curing period to ensure the protective layer fully sets and resists weather and foot traffic. Proper drying guarantees that your deck is fully protected against moisture and environmental damage, ensuring lasting quality.
