"Prior to contracting with Doerrfeld Solutions, we asked for three estimates for the work to be done.  We have twelve units in our association, and all needed to be power washed and stained. Jon of Doerrfeld solutions not only came back with the lowest estimate, he was the only person to notice that some of the units needed to have wood replaced and/or to have screen doors repaired. As we did the initial walk through of the units, I (the secretary of the association and the person in charge of getting the job done) asked him to include the repairs in his estimate.  So, not only was the estimate lower, but it also included repairs that the other two did not. <br /> The work was done professionally.  Jon was great at responding when I sent him an email or called to touch base and get additional information. When the crew was working, they worked hard and were always polite to all homeowners. <br /> I would absolutely hire Doerrfeld solutions for any of my paint/stain needs in the future. <br />"

"The service was excellent! They arrived to pick up the vehicle a day earlier which was great. They delivered the vehicle right to my daughter's door and found a side street to unload. The service was delivered within the time frame given. All of my questions were answered via phone or email and the paperwork was seamless and the price was very reasonable."

"Mr. Tallman came and gave me an estimate of what it would entail to do the job and the amount it was likely to cost.  He gave me different options of what he could do to fix the problems.  He was very professional and prompt.  He was quik to do the repairs and clean up the job site when finished.  He finished the main portion of the work faster than anticipated, so I had him do other minor repairs around my home. <br /> I thought his price was very fair."

"If I could give James Brown an A+, I would. My husband and I are thrilled with the fireplace mantle that he designed to our specifications, built and installed for us.  We had never liked the mantle that was original to the house, but wanted one that was wider and better suited to the furnishings and the uses to which we put our family room.  After we left a message for James, he contacted us to set up an appointment and look over the project.  We discussed reusing an alternate mantle but the modifications that would need to be made didn't make sense.  We then discussed how we planned to use the new mantle and some design ideas, but we were completely relying on James to figure how to build and mount it to a solid brick wall.  <br /> James stopped in a few days later with some moulding samples that we could use to decide on proportions and size and we shared ideas to come up with a final design.  We did not have any specific timetable but James suggested the whole process could take about a month, which was fine with us.  After that meeting James went to work on the construction job and did stop in a time or two to check on stain colors and measurements, etc.  At the end of a month, the new mantle was ready to install.   He understood our wishes and ideas and designed and constructed EXACTLY what we wanted!  I am only sorry that we waited so long to make this change because it has really made a difference in the room! <br /> I believe James will be posting a photo of the installed job, and we would just like to say that it's even better in when seen in person. I highly recommend him and in fact, we have already talked with him about some other projects we would like him to tackle.  Ihope we will be seeing him shortly to start work on those!"

FAQs for shed, barn or playhouse repair projects in Vinton, IA

You’ll know it’s time for a new shed roof if shingles curl or buckle, soft spots sag, or water stains appear inside. Moss or other plant growth on the surface is another red flag that moisture has breached the roofing layers. Replacing the roof quickly stops leaks from spreading, protects stored items, and saves you from costlier structural repairs down the road.

Choosing between a flat and a sloped shed roof comes down to climate, budget, and upkeep. A flat roof is cheaper up front, but still needs a slight pitch for drainage. A sloped roof sheds rain and snow more easily, lasts longer, and often needs less maintenance. Weigh your local weather patterns, the look you want, and how much time you’re willing to spend on upkeep before deciding.

A shed roof’s life span hinges on the material you choose and how well you maintain it. Most standard products last 15 to 30 years, while premium picks like slate or clay tile can protect the structure for 50 to 100 years. Regular inspections, fast fixes, and routine cleaning all help you reach the upper end of those ranges and keep your tools and gear dry year-round.
