"*** BEWARE, GROSSLY OVERCHARGES••• I have a condo in Seattle that my daughter lives in. We had a need to have a toilet reinstalled along with a washer & Dryer that needed to be hooked back up. I live in California and she was unable to do this work herself. I told her to call a plumber and I’d take care of the charges. My daughter had my permission to use my card to pay for the service. She was in a nearby town doing an opening of a new restaurant and was unable to be there and called Beacon to do the work. The tech sent over a docusign which she filled out and provided payment. Afterwards, my daughter sent me a copy of their invoice. It mention the need for some newer parts (hammer arrestors, braided hoses, wax ring and bolts for the toilet. Cost of parts when I priced them out through Lowe’s was roughly $120. They charged my card (my daughter approved it because she didn’t know any better). $2772 for the work. That equates to roughly $2300 in labor for something that should have been fixed in an hour. A very expensive lesson learned for my daughter and myself. This company should be ashamed of themselves. Obviously, had I seen the quote, I would have refused the job. Their response- Jeff, It is actually a contract. Beacon does not offer unearned discounts when the proper prices are charged. Even when reviews are left that is clearly trying to damage the company, are untrue. We are declining to offer an unearned discount at this time. Mark J Sr Mgr Beacon Plumbing, Heating, Electrical & Mech. Inc My response- Well, I never disputed whether it was a contract. My daughter did sign the contract. When I first contacted you I acknowledged such, and my review clearly stated that she signed for it. What your company calls ‘proper prices’ are outrageous. If you have children or grandchildren, I hope they’re never taken advantage of the way my daughter was. I have the money and means to cover the cost, again that was never the issue. Your company is lying if you think I wasn’t truthful in my review. It happened 100% the way I listed. Was the review meant to get your attention, and if it were to damage your reputation, that’s solely based on your company’s ethics, because nothing was untrue."

"Horrible. Hardin Rehab Homes professes to "not charge any mark-up on materials", they say what they pay is what you pay. However, they grossly over-order the materials and then refuse to return the refund - this created a 53% mark-up on materials for our job. Also, a major component of the project was left out without any discussion or ok by us - we were charged for the material and the labor and when it was omitted, another return of our money was refused. The contract stated they will use knowledgeable and capable workers, but they used 2 teenagers that knew nothing about what they were doing. Steve Hardin (owner) was only on site about half the time yet professed to be there and doing most of the work. No clean-up was done throughout project and the project was never completed by Hardin Rehab Homes, we brought in another contractor to finish. Hardin Rehab Homes refused 5 requests for a meeting to finalize things and talk about our "issues" with the project and the money. Technically job abandonment. We finally got Hardin Rehab Homes to attend mediation over the issues in which an agreement was made (and signed), however, they "decided" they didn't want to pay, and didn't ... CAN NOT recommend Hardin Rehab Homes for any kind of work !!! We've been trying to get our money back for over 6 months now. RESPONSE TO SERVICE PROVIDER'S RESPONSE: 12/18/2020: I am writing a 2nd review as my first received a response that is totally incorrect by the business. We filed with small claims court and went to mediation; where Hardin Rehab Homes AGREED they owed us for the portion of the job contracted and charged for but not done - materials and labor. An agreement was reached, a legal document was signed, but the business told the BBB they, "decided they didn't want to pay it". This is not good business practice. A 53% markup on materials is also NOT good business practice. In the job we contracted we experienced fraud, scamming, and dealt with a contract not adhered to by the company that provided it. I stand by my review on this site and can prove through Documentation that everything I have said is correct. I cannot recommend this company for any work of any kind."

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Walla Walla, WA

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
