Customers say: Quick response

"With the latest job John and his team completed for us, I am now able to say that for the better part of two decades, the electrical work needs of four generations of my family have been completed by 4th Generation Electric. As John and I were catching up before the install of our transfer switch and generator hook up, he recalled when we first met almost 20 years ago. From that time forward, he and his teams have completed work for my family that spanned from outlet installation and replacement, wiring our full new build construction home, inclusive of aiding with the installation of the power line from the street (which was 700 feet away from the house), outside patio electrical work for an elaborate tiered landscape, generator hook up requirements, among other things. Just as our electrical needs grew over time, and John and 4th Generation Electric have as well, the same level of attention to detail, focus on customer satisfaction, and not only the desire to strive for perfection but the expectation to do so, has been the standard that he knows not only his customers expect but that he expects for himself and his teams. It’s easy to write a review like this when it writes itself. If you have any sort of electrical work needs, big or small, you’d be doing yourself a disservice not asking John for a quote."

"We had a terrible experience with Record Electric. We recently discovered during another project that we have knob and tube wiring in our six condo unit building, and we hired Record Electric to do a comprehensive knob and tube inspection of five of the six units plus the common areas, and then submit a bid to replace the k&t wiring they found. At the beginning, everything was good. Ron was responsive and scheduled two of his guys to come pretty quickly. But when his guys came, they were rushed and sloppy and after the first two units, they only checked a handful of the outlets and switches saying they "could tell" there wasn't any more knob and tube wiring. Then Ron completely ghosted us, saying multiple times that he would get an estimate to us in a day or so. Never happened. That was bad enough but we then had other electricians to come bid on replacing the few k&t circuits Record found and lo and behold, Record had missed a ton of circuits. Total safety hazard."

FAQs for electrical switches, outlets & fixtures install or repair projects in Waltham, MA

To select and hire an electrician for your light switch installation, start by evaluating candidates as you would for any skilled position. Ask detailed questions, request a written quote, and verify their licensing credentials. This careful screening prevents unexpected fees and ensures every aspect of the installation, including any drywall repairs, complies with code.

A light switch can malfunction due to compromised wiring or overheating conditions. Faulty connections and excess heat diminish the switch’s performance. If you hear crackling, popping, or hissing sounds when toggling the switch, this indicates active electrical faults that pose a safety hazard and demand immediate professional inspection. Prompt attention prevents further damage and ensures reliable operation.

Installing a light switch takes 30 minutes or less, on average. The installation time depends on the switch type, with dimmer switches requiring additional time compared to standard on-off switches. While the hardware replacement might be completed in 15 minutes, it's essential to adhere to safety protocols, like turning off the circuit breaker and verifying there's no power, for a safe and code-compliant installation.
