"Excellent! We needed 4 Timber Retaining Walls that were jointly owned by 6 households (10 people) torn down & Replaced with Stone Retaining Walls. (Not an easy feat with multiple households, one being out of state for an extended period.) However, the paperwork was managed easily by A & J Excavation. All signatures were obtained electronically and work was able to begin. At the jobs completion, everyone was extremely pleased with the quality of the work. Several of us intend on using then again next year for other projects on our homes. Honest, great prices, quality materials, excellent finished product, a 1 year warranty, and easy to work with. What more could you ask for?"

"John was an easy-going person to work with. I could tell right away that he knew exactly what he was doing. He made recommendations to do a skim coat and gave it a day to cure. The next day he installed the tile and gave it another day to cure. The thi..."

"George came out personally to give me a quote for installing a top coat of 2" of asphalt on my existing asphalt driveway, which was wavy and had a number of dips and holes in it. The morning of the install, George's crew showed up early and got to work. They were clean and very well organized, and the final product looks terrific. I finally have a flat, properly sloped driveway!"

"Wonderfully. Cedar Run was recommended by the paver company to correct problems with initial installation, and they really knew their stuff. Nice, conscientious and responsive as well. They even made an extra trip to later seal areas that had had to have stains removed."

"George responded promptly to my call for an estimate.  He followed up a few days later to ask if I had made a decision, and then wrote up a detailed estimate.  He explained that the start date depended on the weather, and the work was completed sooner than I had expected.   <br /> They arrived Friday afternoon and removed the concrete; they returned Saturday morning to pour the concrete.  The entire job was completed by 1:00 pm.  George returned on Monday to remove the protective tape barrier. <br /> George is very pleasant and his team seemed very nice, too.  They have a strong work ethic, worked efficiently and cleaned everything up.  I thought I received a very fair price and the "A" rating George received from others on Angie's list is very well deserved. <br /> <br /> <br />"

"Overall a pleasant and professional experience. Final price was in line with advertisement and quoted price, no surprises or up-charges. Good selection of materials to choose from and excellent turn around time from templeting to installation. Installers showed up on time and were very professional, knowledgeable, and respectful of their surroundings. I would definitely use this company again and recommend them."

"Overall, we were very please with Andy and the crews that worked at the house. This was a challenging job because of the repair aspect of it, rather than building from scratch. They were able to start much sooner than other contractors we had out to bid, and all of the prices were very close. The original job done was done well, but there were a few finishing items we noticed that needed to be touched up. Andy came back to review all of our concerns, and dispatched a crew the very next morning to fix those items. From Andy, the office staff and the crew, their message was that they were not satisfied until we were happy with the job. In the end, the patio looks fantastic, the new steps look really nice, but most importantly, they are installed properly and safely! Kudos to Andy and the team, and thanks for all of your help."

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Warrington, PA

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
