Family owned business with over 40 years experience - Roofing - General Contractor - Remodeling -

"I work for the Garland Company, we are a roofing and waterproofing manufacturer. As the manufacturer, we hold the final warranty for the project. One of the hardest avenues of my job is to find a professional and quality contractors to install our products. When I have the opportunity to work with United Building Contractors, it puts my mind at ease. Between the hard working office staff to ensure all paperwork work is correct, to the outstanding installers in the field, it’s safe to say they are an outstanding outfit. I would recommend them for any and all roofing projects."

WrightBuilt is the leading remodeling company in western Nevada County, with twenty-eight years of remodeling experience. Our kitchen & bath showroom is staffed by a licensed Certified Kitchen Designer. The company owner, Andrew Wright is a Certified Aging in Place Specialist (CAPS), which specializes in designing homes for all ages and abilities. Our Design/Build firm supplies all the steps from concept to completion. We use 3D computer modeling to prepare drawings for our customers. Our designer helps selecting the right products, colors and styles to compliment your home. Once designs are completed and pricing is finalized, we apply for permits as required. We introduce our Lead Carpenter before the project begins and plan with you how the daily schedule will work. We believe in communication! We use 'dust walls' to help control the mess and do a daily sweep to keep things safe and clean. At the end of the project, our professional cleaner wipes everything down so our owner's only need to move back into their beautiful space. After the project is done, the designer and Andy Wright meet with the owner and walk the project to assure we have met and exceeded our clients expectations. We deliver a written warranty to our customers and are happy to take care of any issues that may pop up. It's fairly normal for a fixture, door or cabinet to require some adjustment after a few months.

"It went marvelously. I waited to write this review until we got a good rain and heavy snow fall. June 2019, Stegman Roofing tore off two layers of roofing and replaced about 5 sheets of plywood sheeting and then laid down an ice and water shield and then tiger paw underlay and then "lifetime" true definition shingles. It looks great. Then, late spring, 2019, rain, lots of rain; still no leaks. Then, December 2019, came a snow storm that laid down more snow than any single storm has in the 25 years we've lived here--18". The snow stayed on the roof for over a week; still no leaks. His workers installed our new roof with such care they said is the same care they would give to their own grandmothers' roofs. How sweet and comforting that was to hear, and, after getting to know the workers, I believe they were sincere, truly sincere. NO LEAKS WHAT SO EVER! Now I should be happy with this new roof for the rest of my "lifetime.""

Lifestyle Solar is one of Fresno Bee's People Choice Award Winners for 2012,2013, & 2014. We offer the lowest leasing and the lowest price guaranteed on any solar installation. We are a local business based in Fresno, CA that services the central valley and more!

"Would give zero stars if possible! Larry Hoang at first presented himself as an honest, reasonable man and contractor but his actions have proven this very wrong. We have two major roof leaks that will cost us thousands of dollars to fix - caused by deficient solar panel installation. He refuses to repair them, despite three independent reports from other local licensed contractors indicating the roof damage was *directly* caused by the solar panel installation. We am currently filing a formal complaint with the California State Contractors Licensing Board in an effort to get him to respond, as we cannot even get our roof fixed until he agrees to remove the panels. We hired him specifically because we wanted to support local businesses - but we sincerely regret this decision. Buyer BEWARE! This is not an honorable businessman - nor business!"

FAQs for natural slate roofing installation and replacement projects in Washington, CA

A slate roof features thin tiles of natural stone installed over a solid deck and underlayment. Formed under intense heat and pressure, slate is exceptionally durable and delivers a distinctive, high-end look. Because the material weighs far more than asphalt, most homes need added structural support before installation.

While upfront costs are higher and routine inspections are a must, many homeowners choose slate for its unmatched longevity and curb appeal.

Slate stands out for its 50- to 200-year life span, low maintenance, and classic aesthetic. It’s fire-resistant, energy-efficient, and often boosts resale value.

On the flip side, slate runs far more per square foot than asphalt, weighs up to four times as much, and demands a contractor who specializes in the material. Tiles can crack on impact, and repairs cost more because the work is slow and precise. If your budget and structure can handle it, slate delivers top-tier performance for generations.

Natural and synthetic slate aim for a premium, stone-like appearance, whereas asphalt focuses on affordability. Real slate runs $10 to $30 per square foot installed and lasts up to 200 years; synthetic slate costs $10 to $15 and tops out at 50 to 100 years.

Standard asphalt averages $3 to $8 per square foot and needs replacement every 20 to 30 years. If you want the slate look without the full price tag—or extra roof weight—synthetic is a solid middle ground.

With routine inspections and prompt repairs, a natural slate roof can last well beyond 100 years; some hard-slate installations reach the 200-year mark. Soft slate falls in the 50- to 125-year range, and synthetic products last 50 to 100 years.

Remember, flashing, fasteners, and the underlying structure may need attention sooner than the stone itself. Severe hail or fallen limbs can also shorten life span, so schedule periodic checkups with a slate-qualified roofer.

If you plan to stay in your home long term—or want a standout selling point—slate delivers strong value. Although installation costs are high, owners often recoup 60% to 70% at resale and enjoy lower replacement cycles than asphalt. The stone’s durability, energy efficiency, and timeless curb appeal also appeal to eco-conscious buyers because fewer roofs end up in landfills. Just be sure your framing can handle the weight and that you budget for occasional specialty repairs.

Skip the DIY climb if you have a slate roof. Slate may be tough against the weather, but a single misplaced step can crack a tile and create a leak path. The surface also turns slick when wet, upping the risk of injury. Professional crews use staging and hook ladders that spread weight across multiple slates, protecting both the roof and the worker. To inspect or repair slate, call a roofer who specializes in the material.
