"I hired Dave Richards Home Improvement for a basement remodel and loft conversion. Dave and Bruce are very personable. The contractors that came to work on the projects were very courteous and friendly. Once they show up, they just go about their business. I'm very happy with the end results and would not hesitate to hire them again."

"Excellent experience! Joe was amazing to work with. My project was to remodel my basement - to build media room and bathroom. His estimates were good for my project and he completed the work in time! Very rare I have seen such work getting completing on time, so getting my project completed on time was a pleasant surprise. His work is top notch and we are very happy with everything. He is very friendly and will ensure you are extremely satisfied. Comes up with innovative ideas and I like that he suggests the changes which are good. Materials used by him are top quality and high end products. He doesn’t cut corners on materials. I will be recommending him to anyone wants to do basement, deck etc work."

"It went smoothly exactly as Paul described the job. His crew installed a sump pump and ensured in drained to the curb. The crew replaced the drain run to the curb and dug around the existing bushes. The crew also connected the the roof downspout to the run to the curb. The crew installed a perforated pipe in a trench which created a floating basement floor on 3 sides of the basement. (the 4th wall was not necessary since was an interior wall.) They concreted over the pipe with a gap to the wall. they repaired and painted the basement walls."

"We hired Elite Home Remodeling Inc to totally remodel our master bathroom, install flooring in our lower level, and replace a ceiling fan in our great room. The master bathroom, flooring in the basement, and fan in our great room are all stunning. Working with Elite was an easy process from start to finish. We appreciated their assistance with the design and choosing the materials and color scheme. When we walk into the bathroom, we are still a bit shocked with how beautiful it is. The cratsmanship is first-class. The installer always kept us updated and informed about the process, upcoming deliveries, inspections, etc. He was simply first-class in every way. Elite Home Remodeling, Inc did a fantastic job from start to finish. I can not speak highly enough of the process, their work, and the final project."

FAQs for basement remodeling projects in Washington Court House, OH

Finishing a basement turns unused square footage into livable space and returns up to 70% of what you spend when you sell your home. Beyond that resale boost, you gain a playroom, home office, or guest suite you can start enjoying right away. That mix of daily comfort and solid return on investment (ROI) makes basement finishing one of the smartest upgrades you can tackle.

In some parts of the country—especially lots on swamps, high water tables, or other wetlands—local codes prohibit basements. Saturated soil puts constant pressure on foundation walls and lets water seep in faster than any sump pump can handle.

If your property sits on waterlogged ground, building on a slab or crawl space is often safer, more affordable, and code-compliant.

Most basements wrap up in four to eight weeks. Framing takes three to five days, with electrical and plumbing rough-ins following over the next week. Add five days for drywall, two to three for flooring, and another week for paint, trim, and punch-list items.

Delays can happen if materials run late or your contractor’s calendar is packed, so build in a little cushion when you plan.

Whether a finished basement counts toward your home’s official square footage depends on local rules. Many areas only include below-grade space if it has code-approved egress, fully finished walls, ceilings, and floors, plus consistent heating.

Check with your local assessor or building department before you start; meeting those standards can affect taxes, appraisals, and resale value.

Building codes require a checklist: dedicated heat and electrical service, a code-approved stairway, and at least one egress window or exterior door. Walls, ceilings, and floors must be fully finished and meet insulation, ventilation, and fire-separation standards. If you add a bedroom, you’ll also need a closet, proper clearances, and safe exits. If you change the layout later, be ready to update the space so every new room still meets today’s code.
