"Absolutely Fantastic I have worked with many wonderful contractors over the years but Rick Cox (dba Carolina Carpenter) is at the top of the list. He and his son, Josh, are extremely talented, resourceful and get the job done at a reasonable cost. They and the electrician, plumber and other professionals they use are delightful to work with and of the highest honesty and integrity. In June 2018 my wife and I purchased a house in Connestee Falls, Brevard, NC which was beautifully located but in need a great deal of work. After interviewing a number of contractors, we chose Rick because of his directness, obvious competence and easy manner. The renovation required complete gutting of the core areas, including the removal of several walls and a faux stone wood-burning fireplace. Rick started while we were still in NY and when we arrived in mid-August, he had neatly removed the fireplace. In the following 11 months, he replaced it with gas burning fireplaces in the living room and adjoining Master Bedroom (a very difficult thing to do in the space we had), expanded the rear hall, closed several exterior windows, installed 4 exterior windows and sliding doors, re-floored, re-sided and painted most of the common areas, rebuilt and upgraded the stairway to the lower level and put in a fantastic new kitchen. The project cost six figures and encountered many setbacks as removal of walls and floors exposed poor electrical work and many other preexisting deficiencies. However, in each case, Rick, Josh and his associates developed creative solutions and, as we went along, they helped us refine our vision of what we wanted so that the finished product far exceeded our initial expectations. With his fine carpentry expertise, Rick provided a new beamed ceiling and log mantle and wood work around the new living room fireplace which is itself the artistic focal point of the room. He also transformed an eye-sore half wall into a beautiful built-in cabinet which is integral to the new dining area. Rick and Josh work quietly and efficiently and are upfront about timelines and their availability. In fact, when the demands of a difficult new client caused them to fall behind the timeline they set, they worked on weekends to get current. "Our addition looks wonderful. All our friends say it looks like it was always part of our house. All phases of construction were excellent. All subs were excellent. The price was fair. Here is our story. We had been looking to add a room to our house for a year. We had been fired by 2 contractors who found bigger jobs before they could start our project. In comes GreenFinn, David Green and Chris Finn. They immediately put us at ease which was not easy considering our previous experience in trying to get our addition started. My wife Teresa made the remark to me after we first met with GreenFinn. â These guys will not screw you.â Her intuition proved correct. Other contractors wanted $2K plus to draw up plans just to get a building permit. At our second meeting with GreenFinn, Chris had drawn up plans and gave them to us for free and with out a contract. They started building our addition with no money down. David said that they would bill us after they delivered something of value. They worked for a month before sending us an invoice. All work came it at or below our contract price. There was no â contractor upward creepâ in the pricing at any time. They added a 14â x14â room with 5 windows, 2 skylights, one exterior door, cut a new opening into our house and converted our back door into an open passage way to the new room. They repaired a leak in the roof of our existing home and re-roofed part of it. They also added supports under our kitchen floor. All repairs that could not priced up front were also priced fairly and within the parameters they outlined. All finish work was excellent and on time. David Green is the onsite face of the company and he makes sure that all work is done to the customers satisfaction even when the customer is willing to accept less. One example at our job, the opening through a wall in our house had been cut larger than I really liked. David asked me how I liked it and I replied it was fine, but he could tell that something was going on in my head. and he kept probing until he had me admit that that I would prefer a smaller opening. It was changed immediately to the size that I really wanted. Here is the contractor pushing the home owner to make a change that the home owner really wants, but will cost the contractor more money. This is rare. This is how GreenFinn works, they donâ t just get the job done. They push you to make sure everything is done the way you want it and looks the way you want. "I'll start by saying I chose Matt because of the reviews here on Angie's List and the photographs of his work on his web site. Matt doesn't come cheap, and we did have significantly lower bids for this job. We felt that these built-ins were going into our great room and needed to look good, like a piece of furniture. We felt confident that Matt could deliver the quality craftsmanship we wanted for this project, and decided the extra cost was justified. Matt suggested a bench under each window with storage and doors below and a Cherry top (seat) on the benches. We decided on a scribed fit against the fireplace, which meant Matt would have to cut the bookshelves to mate with the rock fireplace. Matt shared his plan to build the bookshelves in his shop, described the materials being used and the process he would use to paint the exposed surfaces, gave us a rough date for completion and assured us we would be happy with the result. On installation day, he showed up with his partner Josh and each took a side of the fireplace to work on. They spent the entire day installing our built-ins, and even had to finish up a few details on the following day. My wife and I couldn't be happier with the result. The built-ins look great, and have that quality furniture look we hoped for. The sprayed on lacquer finish is awesome and durable. What an improvement in the room!"
