"From the beginning to the end of the job was a PLEASURE to work with these people. Their quality of work is superb to any I have seen. In fact, plan on having them back for an additional project. Beginning with Jamie he was super polite and returned every phone call even being as busy as he is. The customer is obviously number one to this company and they cross all "T's" and dot all "I's" when doing their jobs. No shortcuts for these guys. Can honestly say they ALL take pride in their workmanship and the results show it. Plan on giving them referrals as many as I can since I too am in business and can refer as many people their way as I know NOBODY will ever be sorry they hired them to do their job. Look forward to the next project to be done. FANTASTIC JOB WELL DONE by FANTASTIC INDIVIDUALS! Thanks so much again! G. Holliday"

"Rolling Hills Landscaping did a great job, were punctual, professional and extremely easy to communicate with during the project. From the beginning the estimate received was more than just a number but included sketches of the project as they interpreted it from our initial meeting to discuss our ideas. We were able to tweak features as the project progressed ensuring that the outcome coincided with our vision. Very helpful! As an engineer (retired) I was very satisfied with their attention to detail and found them to be very receptive to constructive comments during the project (I just couldn't help myself)."

"Prestige replaced our 1020 sq. ft. asphalt driveway, which was installed when the house was constructed 35 years ago and badly degraded. Jeff promptly responded to our inquiry, provided expert advice upon inspection, and gave us a detailed cost estimate for the work. Prestige completed the job as promised for exactly the amount estimated. The project included excavation and installation of a new base, as well as the blacktop and restoration. They also removed the remnants of a broken basketball post at the edge of the driveway and filled in the hole. The new driveway looks great. The transition into the garage is perfectly level. Connection to the township street is smooth with end joint sealed by hot tar. The Prestige team was very professional from start to finish. They notified us a week in advance of the work to ensure we could support the schedule. They showed up at 7:30 am on the day promised, worked throughout the day and completed the job at about 4:30 pm, including superior clean-up and restoration. Sod adjoining the driveway was preserved and replaced at the end of the job. A small decorative retaining wall separating shrubbery at the edge of the driveway was also restored (and improved). All residual asphalt and debris was swept up and removed from driveway, yard and township street. We are very satisfied with the work and will definitely use Prestige again when the driveway needs to be resealed."

"Dave was prompt, professional and detail oriented. The 20x40' area (roughly 3.5' deep) had to be removed from my yard and Dave made sure to minimize impact as much as possible. The finished work has a slight grade away from my house which has helped reduce water flow toward my basement. Dave is busy (good people are) and I do recommend being patient setting up the first site visit and quote. The wait is worth it."

"I requested a quote from Patrick at Local Roots mainly to install a Husqvarna Automower 450XH on what I would consider to be a 'challenging' property for this new technology. For anyone not familiar, the Automower is basically a Roomba for the lawn, which promises to mow a carpet-like lawn with minimal maintenance and effort. The result is a beautifully manicured lawn, and I feel like I am living on 'grounds' that are maintained by a full time landscaping crew. The only effort I put into my lawn is to check the Husqvarna app and make sure the mower hasn't gotten stuck, which can happen every few days, and a once-a-month line trim in a few areas. My property is nearly an acre of trees, hills, and roots. While I am technically inclined, I had no idea what the performance characteristics of the Automower were, and initial setup is non-trivial and involves burying a boundary wire as well as guide wires throughout the property. Patrick and crew installed my Automower in a single day. He came with a local Automower approved dealer to ensure that installation was "at or above specification" for things like guide wire lengths and navigable grade. This saved myself significant time in guesswork. In addition, Patrick was willing to set up a season long support contract to perform optimizations and adjustments to the buried wire to ensure my Automower would work flawlessly into the future."

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in West Mifflin, PA

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
