Customers say: Quality work

"They are not local to my area. Please, hire local. And this is for Angi: Try not to recommend contractors who are a significant distance away, in this case around 80 miles (and 2 states) away. Great website, appears to be professionally designed and maintained, I like what they do (judging from the content in the website) but I am outside their service area. I don't live in that area. If I owned a home or apartment in that area, I would hire them."

"If you're looking for a budget job, keep looking. Jack isn't cheap, but he gives you the highest quality service and work. Started on time, worked continuously, finished on time. Spent a lot of time with us discussing the options and planning the work. "Old School" perfectionism. Minimized household disruptions and cleaned up well at the end of each day. Came immediately when we had a minor problem after the job was completed and paid for. The finished product looks fabulous. And if you're a dog lover, you might even get to meet Jack's french bulldog Coco."

"Sorry for the delay in getting this review out.  Dave and his crew are outstanding, being very competitively priced, having excellent quality, and pride in their work.   <br /> At times it was difficult to contact Dave LOL, but he does eventually respond, usually in the late afternoon.  When we scheduled the start of the project, it had been 11 days since my last communication with him, but he did indeed get back to me the day before the project, and confirmed he would be there on the scheduled day to start, and there him and his crew was!  He is so popular, that if he answered the gazillion phone calls during the day, he wouldn't get work done.  This is why he makes most phone calls after his work day. <br /> Him and his crew went right to business, tearing down my wall, saving my bay window even though I only asked him to try since my friend wanted it, and kept it in great shape while removing it!   <br /> The first day the door was in, and the subsequent days put the siding they had initially removed, put up drywall, sanded and painted.   <br /> I even paid extra to patch up the butcher job of a hole on another wall i attempted to fix earlier this year.  I also paid extra for debris removal,  <br /> They went above and beyond to complete the job as they patched up and painted an adjacent wall in my dining room where my wife keeps her "Wall of Fame"  with 50 + framed pictures. <br /> These negative reviews are borderline comical.  ALL contracting companies have 1 or more laborers to assist the with the process of completing jobs.  Do you want the head contractor spending time going to his/her work truck to pick up tools that will be needed in a future process of that respective job?  Come on people!  These guys are perfectionists who know you have a deadline you want to meet with the completion of your job as well! <br /> I have already told my friends and family about Nilsen Building and Remodeling, and I highly recommend them. <br /> I have several pictures of the job they did for me start to finish, and will post them if Angie's List allows me to. <br /> <br />"

"We had an old home that had gotten too small for a growing family. We liked our neighborhood and wanted to remodel/add on. Matt (MTL Contracting) advised that it would be more cost efficient to replace the old house with a new modular home. He helped us from the beginning in planning out the home, letting us look at many Modular home plans from his supplier and from online sources that we found and letting us modify them to suit our needs. Matt delivered everything promised. We ended up with a very nice NEW house at far less cost than it would have been to move into a comparable one close to our neighborhood and without the headaches of updating old construction. At the outset, he said "I want to give you a TURNKEY house. Everything will be ready for you to move in" and that was what happened. Matt did a lot of the finishing work (front porch, garage, interiors etc..) himself in addition to subcontracting. We picked out hardwood flooring and he installed it, he installed the appliances we bought, tiled the bathrooms with our selection of tile etc.. In addition to building the house, he has stood by the construction and has made himself available when things needed attention (routine settling cracks, some siding that blew off in a windstorm etc.) We had a deck on the old house, and he managed to remove it during demolition and re-attach it to the new house. Later, we decided to remove the deck and put in a patio and MTL came in with a great price and put in a very nice Paver Patio. I would recommend MTL Contracting for your construction needs large and small. Great value and workmanship at competitive prices."

FAQs for shelter or outbuilding building service projects in Whippany, NJ

A bomb shelter is an abode built to withstand disaster. Bomb shelters may refer to a space or bunker that can protect inhabitants through a hypothetical nuclear attack, apocalypse, or any other massive crisis. People usually build bomb shelters underground and stock them to live there a few days to a month at a time. Doomsday bunkers accommodate long-term living rather than just through a short crisis.

Builders construct bomb shelters with reinforced steel, box culvert, concrete, or other durable materials (but many professionals do not recommend shipping containers, as they’re not designed to live underground. If building underground, you’ll first have to excavate land before building the actual structure. You’ll have to implement air and water filtration systems, septic systems, and power supply.

It takes a lot of experience to safely and legally construct a bomb shelter, not to mention make sure it’s fit to live in for extended periods of time. It’s best to talk to a residential structural engineer near you for proper guidance.

The current standard filtration systems require filtering both air and water. For air, you’ll want an NBC filter system, which both domestic and international producers make. NBC stands for Nuclear, Biological, and Chemical, which filters out all three. If you’re only building your shelter for natural disasters, chemical attacks, and biological attacks, you may opt for the less expensive HEPA filter system.

Water filtration requires the same level of care. You’ll likely want to have a large water storage capacity to survive short-term disasters. For long-term living, you’ll want to have a water filtration system.

Rising S bunker prices depend on the size, ranging anywhere from $20,000 to $9 million. Their least expensive model is 96 square feet while their most expensive model has a gym, swimming pool, hot tub, and bowling alley.

  • Mini: $45,500

  • Standard Bomb Shelter: $67,500–$109,500

  • Silver Leaf: $140,000–$182,500

  • Admiral: $180,000–$500,000

  • Xtreme: $450,000–$780,000

  • Xtreme Bunker Complex: $840,000–$1,830,000

  • Luxury Series: $3,800,000–$9,600,000

You almost always need a permit to build a bunker on land with any type of public utilities running through it. You’ll want to check with your local building code enforcement agency to see if this is the case for your area.

Because you’re building a structural component that often requires electricity, water, and sewage services, you’ll need to apply for permits to attach these utilities to your new property. However, off-grid-only units in rural areas may not need all or any of the permitting you’d normally find in more urban settings.

To survive a nuclear blast, you’ll need to have your bunker at least three feet underground. However, it’s usually advisable to put it further underground. To survive a close strike, you’ll want to have the bunker at least 10 feet down and with five-foot thick reinforced concrete. However, knowing exactly how deep to build depends on the size of the blast you’re trying to avoid. Most bunkers don’t need to be more than 5 feet below the ground.
