The two technicians who performed the work were very professional and worked hard to overcome some unforeseen installation difficulties. From my initial e-mail to the installation of the cap, Chimney Chap was very responsive. Meanwhile, some other companies I contacted were unresponsive and less interested in performing a small installation project. Scheduling was effortless and they were able to send out a technician within a couple days. The technician (Bobby) arrived on time and was both easy going and professional in his approach to a job that was not apparently as cut and dry as it looked. In the end, the innovative work (due to irregular initial craftsmanship on the chimney) Bobby did looked significantly better that the material (my chimney remnants) he had to work with. "They did a GREAT job! They first ran into permit problems in Brookline, but Rich (?) was able to fix that and didn't charge me extra. Then on the day of the work, they showed up and worked through to the next day and removed the whole chimney from the inside without making a dent in the house. I was MOST impressed with this as I have 2 small children so dust is a big deal to me. Since they are so prompt and efficiently, i was able to coordinate with my roofer to come in on the same day to seal up the roof. At the end of the day, you couldn't even tell that someone had removed a chimney just minutes before. Highly recommended!

"Our chimney needed to be rebuilt from the roof up. We called Carl for an estimate and he sent someone out who gave a free verbal estimate of $1300.00. We scheduled the work and were told they would come out to do the project as soon as they could, as there were other projects ahead of us. The work was completed during three consecutive days by the same gentleman who came out the first time to give the verbal estimate. On the third day, when the work was completed, Carl's worker stated he would be collecting a check from us that day. He then asked what we were quoted on the formal estimate from the company. This came as a complete surprise to us as the only estimate we had ever received was the free, verbal estimate when he first visited our home. He then told my husband he was under the impression the total for the work came to $1800.00 and then he called Carl to confirm. Because of the miscommunication, Carl agreed to charge us $1350.00. This was a positive aspect in our dealings with the company, although they could have been more communicative and clear regarding a formal estimate in the first place. After the work was done, we noticed a lot of debris on our roof, including broken bricks and mortar from the old chimney. We also noticed that a large piece of mortar/cement had been left under our back deck as well as had been spread over parts of our foundation. We are assuming this was extra and the worker was trying to dispose of it. We also never received a receipt for the work. We should have asked for one when we gave him the check, but we were going out of town and were in a rush. Therefore, my husband called Carl multiple times the next week. Carl never answered his phone and his voicemail box was full every single time. My husband also sent an e-mail to the address listed on the company's website, detailing our concerns: 1) no receipt, 2) debris on the roof, and 3) a free cleaning of the chimney which had been part of a verbal agreement -- and my husband never heard back. Due to their unresponsiveness and the mess that was left at our home, we have given up on contacting this company and will be using a different company for any further chimney repairs or cleanings in the future."

"Despite being a small job, Patrick called almost immediately. He quickly went out to my property and assessed the problem. He gave me a quote. The Shamrock Roofing employee was prompt and professional. The problem was fixed on time and at the price quoted. These days it is rare to find a company so responsive."

"Michael was the only contractor to get back to me promptly, to visit the job site promptly, and to stay in frequent contact with me.  He visited the site and town hall seven times to get the job started before I paid him a dime.   When he determined the job would require much more extensive work and doubled his estimate, my architect came out to look and agreed with him completely.   He was not able to start as quickly as I had hoped, but he started promptly when he was scheduled to do so, and is now in the process of doing the work in a timely and considerate manner.  I am unable to comment on the price as I did not get any other estimates, however,  it is probably a fair price considering the amount of work he is doing.  He is also helping me out with obtaining other tradesmen even though I am being the general contractor.   I can't comment on the results yet as he is midway through the job, but after getting very screwed by some very unscrupulous "contractors" I am happy and relieved to have Mike Foote in my corner.   He is honest, professional, courteous yet straightforward, easy to deal with  and clearly knows what he is doing.  I am confident that the results to be consistent with the high level of service I have received so far.  Given my past experience I am probably done looking for contractors, and will try to use Mike Foote in the future whenever I need work done on my home.
