"They used a grinder to level our garage floor so the garage door sealed all the way. Very helpful. Also moved some rocks I couldn't lift. Very pleased with their service."

"Drew and his team did an exceptional job making our landscaping dreams come to life. Drew was incredibly responsive and easy to work with. He kept us updated and did a great job of checking in during the process when little changes were possible/necessary. We are a new construction home in an established neighborhood, so we wanted a certain look. He installed rain gardens, a bio swale, a blue stone paver patio, concrete pads, arbor vitae, two retaining walls, a sprinkler system, and planter boxes, as well as planting many flowers, bushes, shrubs, etc., We are so happy and would 10/10 reccomend!"

"Detroit Concrete Leveling diagnosed my somewhat complex driveway issues and fixed the issues as described. They were honest and efficient in quoting and completing the work. I was able to hire a snowplowing contractor after this repair."

"When we first moved into our home, our backyard was sad and pitiful. The "steps" attached to our back patio door were probably unsafe at best. We contacted DJ Construction thinking we wanted a deck built. Darwin came over and consulted with us and suggested possibly pouring a stamped concrete patio instead. (We NEVER even considered that before) He showed us some ideas and how he could make it work for us and we loved the idea! We also had dogs and it allowed them to keep the space they needed to run around our yard still without a deck taking up space they couldn't be on. We couldn't be more pleased with the results! Our backyard is now our oasis! The concrete patio has given us MORE living and useful space than any deck would have. People are shocked to find out what's behind our gates. Lol The bonus is we know we have something beautiful and unique to our neighborhood. So when it came time to have a part of our driveway repaired and some front of the house beautification work done to our walkway, there was no doubt who we were going to call. Again DJ Sutton did not disappoint. Darwin is officially our go-to person for any work we need done from this point on."

"After spending $30K with them to "repair" my foundation, it's been over a year now that I've been waiting for them to come back to finish the job and do the warranty the work that they said they would do. Since they've been paid, I can't get any response from them. The work they did was horrible, not according to the Architects plan, they used different materials and did the work improperly. They said that they would be coming back to correct it all. After several no shows and no responses, I had to file a state complaint against this company, it's owner and license holder. Meanwhile my home continues to suffer more because of their caliber of workmanship and lack of ability to do their job properly. If possible, I would not give them any stars!"

FAQs for concrete patios, walks & steps installation projects in Whittaker, MI

Most sidewalks rely on a ready‑mix blend of Portland cement, sand, gravel, and water that trucks deliver to your site and pour in one continuous lift. For added strength, many contractors fold in fiber mesh or steel reinforcement. This mix cures into a rock‑solid slab that stands up to foot traffic, freeze‑thaw cycles, and daily wear for decades. Expect a pro to recommend a 4‑inch‑thick pour for standard walkways.

With the right mix, proper drainage, and routine upkeep, a concrete sidewalk can last 25 to 50 years. Freeze‑thaw cycles, road salt, and heavy loads all shorten that timeline, but sealing every few years and patching small cracks early keeps damage in check. Think of sealing as inexpensive insurance for decades of safe, stable footing. In milder climates, some slabs push well past the 30‑year mark without major repairs.

Concrete sidewalks crack as a result of significant temperature fluctuations and heavy load pressures. The freeze-thaw cycles and sustained weight from vehicles or intense foot traffic force the concrete to develop cracks over time. Applying a premium sealant every two to three years and substituting salt with sand for de-icing minimizes crack formation. Regular maintenance and timely repairs safeguard the sidewalk’s structural integrity and extend its service life.
