"We had are gravel driveway re-graded with additional gravel, along with re-doing our Belgium block apron. We requested several proposals and found ADR PRO BUILDERS LANDSCAPING's to be the most responsive and flexible. We worked with Eligio who was knowledgeable and responsive to what we were looking to accomplish. He met with us on a Saturday and had a proposal within a few days. His proposal was also very reasonable from a pricing perspective. He started the work on the date he promised and completed his work on a time. He had a sizable crew. I also found it refreshing not to have a long contract loaded with legalize and escape clauses for any responsibility and attaching risks to us related for non payment. ADR had a very straight forward payment requirement. Bottom line we would strongly recommend ADR, and have already done so."

"MJ Castano Contracting did an superb job on the wall in my driveway. They are trustworthy and professional.  They explained the correct way  to do the repair was to install wire for  reinforcement  because the block was not in good condition.  Very satisfied with the repair and the price was fair.  I would definitely recommend this company to perform any masonry work! <br />"

"We contacted Dr. Pavers for work on our front steps, front walkway, and to create a back patio. Roberto was professional and courteous through out the estimate. He worked with us to develop a plan that met the needs we were looking for within out budget. His team was professional and hardworking. They showed up on time and put in full days work delivering a beautiful project within out budget. They noticed some issues with the pitch of the driveway to the new patio and created the solution to avoid any pooling of water issues. They are extremely knowledgeable in the work they do. The finished project is beautiful and exceeds our expectation. I highly recommended Roberto and his entire team at Dr. Pavers without reservation. I will be contacting them again for future projects that I need."

"New driveway looks great. Very high quality. All appropriate steps in the process of rebuilding, from gravel base to final paving, were meticulously followed. The work was done promptly according to the schedule I agreed with Rick. The price was competitive, but not the sole determinant of choosing Alto. Rick is very professional and knowledgeable. Had a lot of confidence from the beginning that I could rely on Alto to do a great job."

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Yorktown Heights, NY

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
