However, in each case, Rick, Josh and his associates developed creative solutions and, as we went along, they helped us refine our vision of what we wanted so that the finished product far exceeded our initial expectations. With his fine carpentry expertise, Rick provided a new beamed ceiling and log mantle and wood work around the new living room fireplace which is itself the artistic focal point of the room. He also transformed an eye-sore half wall into a beautiful built-in cabinet which is integral to the new dining area. Rick and Josh work quietly and efficiently and are upfront about timelines and their availability. In fact, when the demands of a difficult new client caused them to fall behind the timeline they set, they worked on weekends to get current. "We hired Handy Home Helpers to remodel both our, upstairs and downstairs, bathrooms. We could not be more pleased with the job they did for us. They gutted the bathrooms down to the studs, reconfigured the layout and rebuilt them back in a timely matter. John and Bree did all the work themselves. Demo, plumbing, electrical, carpentry, drywall, painting and tile work all done by just the two of them. It was amazing to watch them work. The speed, quality and detail of their work was superb. They were great at keeping us up to date on the progress of the jobs. They also kept the power and water disruptions down to a minimum, always giving us plenty of notice when they were going to shut them off. They took time to answer all our questions. "John Squires is very responsive, professional, and courteous. During the week between Christmas and New Years, we needed a new contractor ASAP for a house we were about to close on and we did not hold out much hope for finding someone on short notice during the holidays. John called us back shortly after we left him a message and agreed to meet with us the next day at the property. The next day, John spent a lot of time with us going through the entire house, pointing out issues that were previously not brought to our attention. He also offered creative ideas for making the space work with careful consideration to our budget. Further, being two women, we are wary of every new male contractor as we have experienced numerous contractors and handymen to be condescending and patronizing (lots of "darlin'" and "honey" and an inability to realize that we know what we are talking about and are not inexperienced or naive about home restoration). John was the opposite, deliberating with him on the house was like talking with a close male friend that respected you and saw you as an equal. We even felt comfortable enough to share with him that we appreciated and noted his approach and manner. As mentioned before, John was very thorough in his assessment of the house and pointed out issues that others had missed. For instance, he pointed out a panel of asbestos in the second story that the person we had paid to assess the house for asbestos had missed. He also pointed out how the foundation had been compromised in a few places in the crawlspace where the current owners had begun digging out the space to convert it into a basement. Ultimately, we pulled out of the contract on the house, so we have not yet been able to work with John on construction. However, John's assessment and insights into the house partly informed our decision to back out of the deal and in hindsight know it was the right thing to do. Without John's perspective, we may have moved forward with the purchase and regretted it later. We are now looking for a different property in Asheville and will absolutely be working with John in the future."

"These guys were FANTASTIC. Our 580 square foot deck has insane angles, two staircases, dry decking for an outdoor living space underneath the deck, and complicated joists and posts. They did an incredible job paying attention to detail and symmetry. Our deck was 50 years old and these guys had to tear it down and rebuild it with new materials. We found some issues with the top plates and instead of just bandaging it and moving on like most companies would do, they fixed it and made it better than it was before. We have a large outdoor living area underneath the deck so we chose Duxxbak dry decking. If youâ re not familiarâ ¦this is literally the hardest material to work with on an angled deck and they figured out every little tricky detail. They even created pieces that donâ t exist to make it work. I was especially impressed with Johnâ s mind :) The only negative to this material was that there was a lot of waste. This made the cost more expensive than any of us were anticipating. With that being said, Jesse worked with us in every way possible and couldnâ t have been any more genuine and honest throughout the process. Not only does it look beautiful, but it is structurally sound and will last forever. I truly do believe that you get what you pay for. Their labor may be a little more expensive than other quotes you may get, but I can promise you theyâ re worth every penny. Theyâ re detail oriented, clean, professional, and extremely good at what they do. They even worked in the rain some days and always left it clean when they left for the day. As a real estate agent, I see a lot of terrible decks and I can tell you that I will be recommending these guys to ALL of my clients in need of repair or new builds. 10/10 recommend Summerlin Exterior Solutions!"
