"Joe really communicated with all the contractors really well. Our patio turned out unbelievable, with the colors and border that Joe helped us pick to match the house. The guys that did the screen in were awesome too. Definitely we would recommend. We are very happy."

"EXCELLENT craftsmanship. Super high quality work. Very communicative - never ghosted us or left us in the dark. Five stars on all of that!! The only reason I don't give 5 stars overall is the timeline. We were originally quoted 8-10 weeks for our screened porch and it took a lot longer. There were things out of his control that contributed to that, so we understood. And again, he kept us in the loop. He also built us a new shed during that time and that slowed down the progress of the porch as well. We loved Calvin and would be happy to have him do more work for us."

"Joe Everette is the absolute best in the business. He is a master at keeping on time and on budget, while providing top quality work and materials. He does not cut corners, he is particular with every detail. We honestly have no complaints at all. We are so happy with our new home which is in the last week or so of construction. We give him 100% + grade AA for an awesome job. No matter how many times we bug him he never acts irritated or like he does not have time for us. If you want top quality, he's your guy!"

"Chip Miller Home Improvements is very personable. He seemed very nice and pleasant. He's clean but I wouldn't use him again. He said he would fix certain things on my drywall and then when it came down to doing it I had to go back and point it out and he said, we would fix it, then I had to go over with my husband on a Saturday and stand and wait for him to fix it. He said, okay, do you see anything else? He acted like he was just ready to get out of there and he didn't do what he said he was going to do. We don't feel like we got our money's worth. I've had several other contractors come in for remodeling and I've used two or three other people and I would not have Chip Miller back. I want people to understand maybe Chip Miller would work out for some people but what I had him in there for, I just think I paid too much for what I got. When he actually got in there, he just skipped around and what really upset me with him was the painting. After he fixed the drywall and the ceiling, I had had popcorn ceiling taken down, I wanted him to smooth them out, fix it, mud them and sand them, there were places on the ceiling that were never fixed. I had him paint, I bought the paint and I asked him what paint he wanted, he used it and whenever he rolls the paint on the ceiling, they're supposed to come back with the brush down one or two inches on the wall and hit it with the brush so when it drips, it doesn't dry as a drip on the wall and he didn't cut in around the ceiling, he just rolled it. You can see roller marks four or five inches down my wall and he didn't wipe any of the drips off. When I got in there to do the wall and climbed up on the ladder and got ready to cut in the wall to do my line along the ceiling, there were drips everywhere and by then you can't get that off. You can't sand that off the wall, I know, I tried. I had read on his other reviews that he had taken wallpaper down and he had done a good job. I asked him when he got ready to paint the ceiling, are you going to cut in when you do the ceiling or do you want me to cut in when I do the wall? He said, whoever does the ceiling first usually comes down and inter-tube. I thought, that's fine but I didn't expect him just to roll it on and just leave it, that was very disappointing and I could never get the streaks, you can stand on one side of the room and look across the ceiling and there was streak in it. He repainted a room for me to try to get the streaks out, I said, in this room, the walls are all white and I'm doing the ceiling a real light sky blue. I said, I'll buy you another gallon of paint and he said, that'll be added to your quote to put another coat on there. I said whatever it takes, this ceiling has got to be painted again. I'll pay you more to do the ceiling and do you want me to buy another gallon of paint? He said, no I think I've got enough. There was a little bit in that can and I came to find out later, he had taken that little bit of blue, quarter of a can of blue and mix it with white to get enough to put a quick coat on that ceiling, he made a different color. When I went back in there to touch it up and open the can, it wasn't what the label was on the outside of the sample that was on the top of the can lid, you could see where he had mixed white on it. If they are willing to stand and watch him, it's okay. There was so much dust going on from the sanding and I truly thought he had it under control."

"When making the appointments I was always clear that I wanted the out of place shingle addressed and confirmed I would not need to be home for the visit. Scheduling got rained off 3 times (nothing they could do about that), but I had to follow up with them to reschedule. The last time I called to reschedule, I was told that the service had been completed and the result was “no shingles were out of place & they could not get access to the rear of the property, as it was fenced.” That's it! I eventually talked with the technician responsible for the visit who informed me: 1. He did not actually visit but sent someone else 2. They will not open a gate as they are concerned about dogs and liabilities (really…. & the gate was open that day)! 3. He was unaware this was an angieslist tune up and when he realized that, he stated the roof was too steep to qualify and that's why they did not go on the roof The difficulties scheduling, level of communication and the technician’s story did not make me feel comfortable continuing to work with them and we agreed they would refund the “deal”. The management team was then very responsive and professional and the deal was refunded immediately. I am now getting another angieslist contractor to look and quote for the repair. I did not believe the claim that my roof is too steep to qualify for the deal. It does not look anything special, it is the same as all the others in our neighborhood and contractors have walked on mine and neighbors before. BUT from accurate measurement in the attic, I confirmed it is an 8-12 roof which does not qualify for any roof deals on angieslist. Before purchasing any roof tune up deal, I would recommend members go into their attic and measure the rise for a horizontal run to confirm their roof is within deal specifications (6 inches rise for 12 inches of horizontal travel)."

FAQs for major home repair (general contractor) projects in Hickory, NC

In many cases, it’s much less expensive to convert a bus than to buy an RV, especially if you’re considering a newer RV model, which can exceed $100,000.

Another huge benefit of school bus conversion is that you are in control of the renovation project. You get to pick your camper's new layout and all the appliances and furniture.

While school buses can easily cost $300,000 when they're new, you can often find used buses for just a few thousand dollars. These vehicles experience extreme depreciation due to government regulations; they can only be used for so long before they must be replaced. Due to those same regulations, other government agencies cannot purchase them for their own uses, so the consumer market is the only place they can go.

The length of time it takes to convert a bus depends on the scope of the project (and size of the bus), how much work is DIY vs. done by a professional contractor, and how much work you’re doing up front.

In general, expect at least a couple of months for a conversion, but larger conversions could take six months to a year. Remember: You can tackle projects as you go: Get the basic work done so that it’s livable, and then continue to enhance your living space over time.
