"Justin Morris of ROC Construction was very knowledgable, nice and considerate. He did an excellent job not just installing the driveway but also keeping us informed about when he'd be coming by. Both my husband and I are very satisfied with the work done. "

"Mr. Morrison was very professional, arrived at residence at time specified, staff was very friendly and responsive to my requests. The quality of work performed was excellent. The price was right. Mr. Morrison completed the job in one day instead of two. I highly recommend Morrison Paving, for any paving needs. Thanks"

"Excellent response. As a do-it-yourselfer, I am always hesitant to hire contractors. The project needed someone experienced and Cleanstone came in and did a phenonminal job! Zack's vision overlapped my own and he got it done with his team. On time, budget set, job completed in allotted time. I would recommend him and his team to anyone. My first experience letting someone else do the job was great!"

"I would strongly recommend AW Masonry to anyone with a large concrete job. Alan (proprietor) showed close attention to detail. Coordinated smoothly with gravel and concrete deliveries. He and his team produced an excellent surfaced foundation. Very happy."

"Styer was responsive and helpful. They found what we wanted in December and made good suggestions concerning our requests. The install team did an excellent job. I'd use them again. Price might seem a little high but everything is still alive and doing well and of course it's guaranteed. <br />"

"Corey met me the same day to provide an estimate, and while I initially thought his estimate was high, after receiving other quotes I realized that it was reasonable for the work being done. He texted me to keep me informed along the way which I appreciated. What I like about Corey is that he’s an honest, straightforward guy. Tree work is notoriously expensive as home/landscape expenses go, and he gets it - he won’t try to sell you something you don’t need or pressure you into having more work done than is necessary. It’s hard to find service professionals like that and I would highly recommend him to anyone."

"I just had my driveway resurfaced by Capital Paving.  It was a 25+ year old surface that had been penetrated by roots making the surface very uneven. I had the trees removed lat year and the stump ground, but the uneven driveway was very unsightly. In addition, I wanted the driveway widened. Capital Paving was very prompt with the response and quote and were very reasonable with their pricing. They came within a week of the agreement and did a very professional job. A large portion of the original driveway was removed along with the roots and the portion removed was back filled with gravel along with the extension. The entire job was completed with in about 4 hours. I give this company 5 stars for the excellent and professional job they did in completing the project."

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Hopewell, VA

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
