"We have worked with other carpet stores over the years and are fortunate to
have found Carpet Carousel on Angie’s List. We needed to recarpet the upstairs
study which is reached through a “floating” spiral staircase. Both the study
and the treads of the staircase had to use the same material.

We first had a store we were familiar with take a look. They initially
weren’t sure how they would carpet the treads of the spiral staircase or how
they would move the furniture to carpet the study. I then found Carpet Carousel
on Angie’s List and Shawn came over. He immediately figured how to carpet the
treads and move the furniture. We then visited their show room where Shawn
showed us a number of samples that could work. We took a few with us and made a
decision. In the meantime, we got a quote from the other carpet store and
nearly fell over – it was just about twice the price of Carpet Carousel.

The installation was excellent. The two men doing the job were punctual
and knew exactly what to do. After the job was done, the area was vacuumed and
the furniture replaced. I highly recommend Carpet Carousel and only wish I had
known about them years ago.

"Nicky gave us a sale price on our carpet even though the sale hadn't started yet. He also gave us some good advice and we ended up going with a Berber carpet for our busy living room that's been exactly the right choice for us. The crew who showed up to install the carpet was on time, quick, and professional.
I called Nicky again the day before a big snowstorm. Someone had suggested carpet tubes as a way to keep a toddler busy, and Nicky wasn't at all fazed when I asked if I could have one. He sent over two tubes and even threw in some carpet squares (one of which is 3' x 8' and perfect for my hallway). My son was thrilled to roll his balls and trains down the carpet tubes, and I was thrilled that it kept him entertained when we were snowed in.

"After searching on Angie's list for a contractor to replace approximately 300SF of rug covering my Cambridge apartment with hardwood flooring, I found Universal Hardwood Flooring after reading the many good reviews.  I called the Company and spoke with Mike Tran, proprietor and in short order Mike was over my apartment to provide a quote and help select flooring.  Mike was very punctual, courteous and professional in providing the quote and explaining the process to me.  I accepted the quote and we set up a time to do the job.
On the day job took place, Mike arrived on time and with a co-worker who was also extremely courteous and professional.  I left my apartment in their hands and went to work.  I arrived home at the end of the day and was abolutely amazed at how they transformed my apartment.  The floor looked gorgeous!  Mike and his colleague did an absolutely meticulous job!  They paid attention to every nook and cranny of the space and cut the wood to extremely precise measures and cleaned up meticulously as well.  Mike and his company are craftsmen as well as gentlemen.  I couldn't be happier and completely recommend Universal Hardwood Flooring. Thanks Mike!

"The sales experience was very good--they were informed and suggested options that were suitable for my needs. The reason I did not give them an "A" was that the quality of the installation was not as good as I expected. The installer (I believe) is an independent contractor. He did a good job of explaining the options for how the carpet could be installed, but he was sloppy on fitting the carpet to the lower steps which are slightly curved. I pointed this out and asked him to improve the fit, which he did--sort of--but now that corner of the installation has come loose and I will have to staple or tack it into place myself. My advice--check the installation very carefully."

"I went to the store to look at carpet samples.  They were very helpful.  They asked what I was interested in, my price range, and how I would be using these rooms.  I didn't really know what I wanted, so they showed me a variety of carpets in a variety of price ranges.  They allowed me to take several samples home to see them in the rooms.  When I went to purchase the carpet I wanted, they helped me pick out an appropriate padding and the appropriate grade.  I was going to go for a higher price grade and they actually steered me towards the middle price range, saying it would be more appropriate for what I was looking for.  They came within a few days to measure my rooms and then ordered the carpet.  They were very upfront with how long it would take for the carpet to come and when their availability would be to install it.  When they came to install the carpet, they came right on time, and were very professional in all their work.  They took the old carpet away and swept and vacuumed before they left.  They even sent me a thank note a few days later.  I am very happy with my new carpet.  I love the color and it is so much softer than the old carpet.  I would definitely use them again and recommend them.

FAQs for carpet installation projects in North Reading, MA

Carpet rolls come in standard widths of 12 and 15 feet. Less commonly, you might find a roll 13.5 feet wide. There are no standard roll lengths, but they’ll have enough to cover almost any home.

You’ll need equal amounts of carpet padding and carpet. Carpet padding costs $200 to $500 for the average room. However, the padding is trimmed a couple of inches away from the wall on all sides to make room for tack strips. Most residential installs have padding, and professionals include this in their bids.

Often, the best carpet for basements doesn’t include a pad. You’ll find this mainly in humid areas or places with a high-water table.

One linear foot of carpet or other material is simply one foot measured in a straight line. You typically aren’t going to measure carpet this way. It’s quoted in square feet or square yards.

There are nine square feet in one square yard of carpet.

The amount of carpet you need to cover two rooms varies depending on the room size and configuration. Measure the floor space. Multiply width times length. Do this for both rooms and add the numbers together.

You’ll need between 80 and 110 square feet for 13 stairs. For unique stairwells, you might need more.

Measure indoor/outdoor carpet like you would any other area, taking the width times the length. For patios, make sure to add a couple extra inches to wrap around the edges. Indoor-outdoor carpets cost an average of $3.50 per square foot.

You’ll need enough carpet to cover the entire area of damage to avoid seams. For example, if you have a 4-inch tear in the middle of a hallway, you’ll want enough carpet to stretch from door to door or the next available seam. Depending on the type of carpet you have, you might be able to get a professional to do an invisible seam repair.

One square foot of carpet is one foot long by one foot wide.
