"We used both Habitar Design and Stratagem Construction for two projects over the past year and would use again for future projects. "I received approximately 6 estimates from various contractor for badly needed repairs to the exterior of our house. This work involved masonry restoration as well as extensive trim work. The trim is not only decorative but functional on my Tudor style home as it actually serves as a protective barrier over face brick which was constructed with channels cut out to accommodate the cedar trim. Odd but that's how it was built. This presented challenges as many contractors didn't want to deal with both masonry and carpentry work. I ended up hiring an excellent contractor to do the masonry work and subsequently hired Todor from Alenia Exteriors to do the necessary carpentry repairs. Todor had many excellent ideas and was genuinely interested in lasting repairs as well as making everything look great. We ended up choosing cedar trim and cedar lap siding which was painted on both the front and back sides and the end grain. This is a very important step to ensure this material is adequately protected from the elements. Many contractors didn't want to bother with this step or insisted it wasn't that important. The bottom line is other contractors didn't want to spend time to properly prepare material. Todor's schedule was booked up and it took awhile to actually begin the process - this was communicated to me upfront but I was willing to wait for his schedule to open up in order to contract him for this project. Todor performs the work himself - I like the idea of having the same person provide the estimate and also do the actual work. Todor's crew is also equally hard working and skilled. "Amazing quality work! This was our first major home reno project; so we needed a lot of ‘hand-holding’ throughout the process. Richard Bialas was our guy! He was super patient with us when we didn’t even have any actual drawing plans. He really understand what we wanted and was able to execute our ideas with such attention to detail. He even gave suggestions to help enhance our ideas. He has an endless resource of knowledge and experience. When we needed to get a stairwell post/sleeve we were going to have to custom order it, because our stairs are really steep it calls for a nonstandard size. This would take several weeks and more money. Richard was able to save us money by custom building it himself. He did a beautiful job designing the post with such quality craftsmanship while keeping it within our style. Richard explains his process every step of the way. We really felt a sense of confidence and trust within his work. He put so much quality and care into each of the projects as if it were for his own home.
