"Overall the service was excellent. Here are the details: My 16-year old Frigidaire garage freezer was still keeping food cold, but not freezing some of the food and the compressor blower stopped coming on. James answered within a few rings on my first call at 6:30PM on a Thursday. I told him my situation. He said he wanted to not hand it off to someone else because he was the refrigerant expert for them. Said he'd call back within 30 min. to set an appt. He called back on time and set an appt w/me the next day, giving me a 2-hour window. On the appt day, he arrived exactly at the start of the appt window, calling me first to let me know he was at my house. He listened to my experience w/the freezer, looked at it for a couple minutes and quickly diagnosed that I had either a blockage or leak in the cooling lines the wind throughout my racks which is why the top of the freezer was working, but not the bottom. After letting me know it would cost ~$450 to repair, he advised me to get a new freezer rather than pay for the costly repair. He felt that given the complexity and cost of the repair and the age of the freezer, I could get a brand new one for just about $100 more. So I took his advice and only paid the service call of $70 (less the Angie's List 10% discount). Turns out he was exactly right. I purchased a new freezer later that day – same brand, almost the same model, but with better features and for $540, or just about exactly what James predicted. I'd highly recommend James and Knapp for your appliance needs. He was quick communicated excellent, was on-time and courteous and gave solid advice. I feel he is someone you can trust."

"This pro provided useful information via a virtual (online) video consultation. Since this service does not send technicians to the home, they did not do the actual work. I am considering whether to order parts and try to complete the repair myself or under their virtual direction."

"From his report : Cut open sheetrock in garage to expose section of burst CPVC. Replaced frost free sillcock/ hosebib and section of CPVC with PEX pipe, and put insulation on. Checked for leaks, none.
My comments: I thought they would have some fancy equipment to find the exact location of the leak. Actually, he had me turn the water supply on slowly while he looked around for water. It took a while for the water to come out so he was having a hard time tracking the leak down. This resulted in us unnecessarily moving out some additional shelving further back in the garage. Finally, he had me open the water supply up more and the water started coming out below the faucet at the front of the house. He did a good job of cutting the holes in the sheetrock in the right places. He then had to cut through another pressboard panel to reach inside the column and get at the back of the hosebib. The CPVC pipe was badly shattered right behind the hosebib. He asked me if the old hosebib was leaking or hard to turn at all, and if I wanted to replace it. It was working fine but since it was 17 years old I had him put on a new one. The PEX pipe with insulation and a new hosebib were quickly installed. We talked about the holes and I decided to use one of his plastic spring-fit covers over one of them, and I will likely re-sheetrock the other one. He cleaned up his work area well including taking away the old plumbing. Everything was finished in about an hour. I did not ask them for any quote in advance, and he just charged me for a flat rate hosebib replacement which is $235 plus tax. This is a little more than I was expecting after looking at costs for similar work on Angies list but the price does seem reasonable.

"Technician came to the house and analyzed the problem. It was determined that the cost of repair was over the allowable Choice Home Warranty limit and it should be replaced. Choice Home Warranty issued their replacement cost. This cost was unacceptable and I challenged their figure. After some negotiation I was offered an increased settlement amount. I still balked at their offer but I was told to take it or repair my old microwave. I finally accepted their amount, even though it is still well below what it will cost me to replace the unit. I might add that the existing microwave has the convection feature and I want to replace with same features. The cost that I will receive also does not include any removal, disposal or installation costs. At this time I am debating whether I will continue with Choice Home Warranty or consider other options."

"The technician emptied the freezer, which was in the basement, to work on the part that needed repair. Then he neglected to put anything back into the freezer, including a turkey I had bought for Christmas and a rack of ribs. Two days after he left, I went out of town for two weeks. The turkey actually exploded and spewed its liquid all over everything, which had to be discarded. I let AHS know and they couldn't even bother to call me or follow up on this. I'm considering not renewing my contract with them because of the quality (or lack thereof) of many of the providers they send."
