Reviews of Salt Lake City Bathroom Remodelers
Salt Lake City, UT
I worked with Heber and he was amazing! The work was professional and timely. He worked around my schedule, gave me great advice, and kept me informed at all times. The bathroom looks beautiful. I would definitely work with Utah Floor Coverings again. My only complaint is that it was occasionally difficult to get a hold of anyone at the showroom.
West Valley City, UT
Jeff was fantastic when he came out to our house to give us our estimate. He was very upfront and honest and supported our desire to buy our own tile, vanity and everything else. He gave us a detailed list of what we needed to get, which was fantastic! He knew how important it was that the job get done in 5 days. Al was the person who came out. All I can say is OMG!!! This was the best experience I've had with a contractor. Al was WONDERFUL!!! Very knowledgeable, helpful, respectful of our home and just a nice guy. Jeff was wonderful in checking with us and making sure everything was okay. They finished early and it's beautiful!!! I am going to begin saving for our kitchen remodel. He's already given me information about what we need to do. I'm not even going to bid it out, I will hire him and Al!! I highly recommend this group for any project you may have.

Pyramid removed the old tub surround and flooring and installed ceramic tile around the tub and on the floor. The work was done exactly as promised and I am very happy with the quality; they are talented craftsmen. Everything was completed on time and at 1/3 the cost of the top bidder!

Salt Lake City Bathroom Remodels
Used by every member of the family, a well-constructed bathroom is a critical part of any home. Offering some of the highest returns in terms of home value compared to other home improvement projects, remodeling a bathroom can be as simple as swapping out fixtures for an upgraded look or as complex as tearing the room down to its studs and completely reimagining it.
Homeowners in the Salt Lake City area who want to increase the value of their property often choose a bathroom remodel project and, as a part of a statistical area that includes over 2.4 million residents, are in an excellent position to find and hire a contracting professional to do the job. However, there are many factors that contribute to the overall effect and cost of a bathroom remodel. Homeowners must consider a variety of factors before choosing who to work with and what work needs to be done.
Prominent Neighborhoods in Salt Lake City, UT
Salt Lake City is nicknamed the "Crossroads of the West" because of its location in the heart of the Great Basin along the old lines of the transcontinental railroad and the modern I-15 and I-80 freeways. The just under 200,000 residents enjoy an urban outdoor lifestyle that centers largely on winter activities such as skiing. Salt Lake is also the center of a large urban and suburban corridor in the American West called the Salt Lake-Ogden-Provo Combined Statistical Area that is home to nearly 2.5 million people living in urban and suburban environments.
The city itself has benefit from its location along with an influx of business investment and strong job market. Indeed, Salt Lake City's real estate market has remained strong, even though new construction within the city itself is hard to find. The vast majority of homes in the city are affordable and middle class; $250,000 is the median price. Prominent neighborhoods such as Downtown, the Avenues, and the Marmalade District offer young professionals and families various dwellings to call home, including condos, bungalows, and townhomes.
More affluent areas such as 9th & 9th and Sugar House round out the city's main offerings and include ranch-style homes, cottages, and even some two-story selections. There are also larger, more expensive homes available in these districts and even some mansions just outside the city's limits, as well as a variety of new construction offerings in suburbs such as Woods Cross, South Jordan, and Bountiful.
Costs for Bathroom Remodel Services and Supplies
The options are vast and include everything from simply swapping out fixtures and painting to completely overhauling the space with a new design and flow more useful for modern occupants. The decisions homeowners make in regards to these details will greatly impact both the cost and the final result of their Salt Lake City bathroom remodel project.
Which parts of a bathroom you choose to upgrade or replace directly impact the final cost of any project. Most homeowners in Salt Lake City pay between $4,201 and $9,423 to remodel their bathrooms, which is a significant range. However, the average cost Salt Lake City homeowners pay as compared to the rest of the country is actually a bit lower for most projects.

In addition to the work done, the quality of the items used during that work also impacts the final cost of a bathroom remodel project. Homeowners may want to choose custom-designed elements for a more personal touch. To save money, they may opt for store-bought items to keep costs low while still adding an element of newness. Either way, Salt Lake City residents have many options to consider.
Custom Bathroom Accessories
Homeowners in Salt Lake City who want to elevate the look of their finished bathroom with custom accessories have a variety of options from which to choose including features such as cut tile, made-for-space vanities, and specialty colors on items like showers and toilets. Depending on budget, there are a variety of retailers and artisans who provide these custom accessories. This includes made-to-order options at national retailers like Lowe's and Home Depot as well as small businesses who build to suit. The latter is often much more expensive, but also exactly tailored to a bathroom space. Popular local retailers who offer custom bathroom accessories include Swirl Woodcraft, Peppertree Kitchen & Bath, and MJ Design Custom Cabinets.
Store-Bought Bathroom Accessories
Cost-conscious homeowners can still upgrade their bathroom accessories to newer, more modern designs by utilizing standard or universal fit items bought directly from store shelves or online. These items include vanities in pre-set sizes and standard color porcelain fixtures and are available at most home improvement stores throughout the Salt Lake City area.
Hiring a Professional Contractor
A successful bathroom remodeling project is not just about design and budget, but also about the contractor and subcontractors doing the work. Because bathrooms involve both plumbing and electric as well as basic construction and design, expect that several professionals will need to do work in your home during the course of a remodel. That is why finding a reliable general contractor to oversee this work is so important. This means considering a variety of factors, such as:
- Qualifications and Licensure: The State of Utah requires that all contractors, including plumbers, electricians, and general contractors, must be licensed by the state if completing jobs that cost more than $1,000. The state offers over 50 specific types of licensure, which include general contracting and building.
Licensing requirements vary according to trade, but generally include an exam, documented experience such as an apprenticeship, and a fee. Homeowners can check the status of any contractor's license through the state's license lookup and verification system at https://secure.utah.gov/llv/search/index.html.
- Reviews and Recommendation: While proper state licensure is important for a contractor, having a license does not tell homeowners how a particular contractor will complete a job. Before hiring any contractor for a bathroom remodel, check references including online review sites and word-of-mouth recommendations. Many reliable contractors will also have a website with reviews and examples of past projects or similar information available upon request.
- Timeliness: The amount of time it takes a contractor to complete your bathroom remodeling project has a direct impact on the cost as well as the inconvenience. Bathroom remodel projects, in general, take between 2-3 weeks. However, the number of hours worked in that timeframe matters when it comes to total cost. Ask contractors for an estimate on labor as well as materials. While unexpected delays can happen, this is the best way to anticipate the final cost of a bathroom remodel.
Other Bathroom Remodel Projects and Ideas to Consider
Depending on your budget and the size of your bathroom space, remodeling a bathroom offers endless possibilities from a simple update to transforming a space into a private oasis. However, there are also additional considerations and complementary projects that you can do along with a bathroom remodel that are worth considering as well.
Small and Multiple Bath Remodels
Because of the reduced square footage, it is less expensive to remodel a smaller bathroom. Similarly, when redesigning a bathroom, controlling its size is an easy way to save money. However, for homeowners with additional funds, remodeling a small bathroom alongside a larger one is another way to save money on the total costs. With workers, equipment, and materials already purchased and in your home, tandem remodels offer some cost savings over doing one at a time.
Building a Bathroom as Part of an Addition
Adding a bathroom or extending a current bathroom as part of a larger home addition project is another idea worth considering. When homeowners opt to add a bathroom this way, the design starts from scratch which allows them to add a truly personal touch.
Refinishing Bathroom Accessories
One way to save money on a bathroom remodeling project is to opt to refinish fixtures such as tubs, showers, and sinks rather than purchase them new.
Upgrading Bathroom Accessories
Higher-end accessories in the bathroom, including premium tile and granite countertops, not only add additional style and luxury to the space, but may enhance the resale value of your home even more. These accessories do cost more, however.
The cost of a bathroom remodel in Salt Lake City may be high, but the resale value you gain as a homeowner and the convenience that a modern space offers is worth the investment. However, in order for a project to be successful, it is essential that the contractor or contractors doing the work are reliable and affordable. Taking time to research not only what you want done, but who you want to do it will help you to control costs while also creating a space that you will love.
