"We used Pyramid to install quartz countertops in our kitchen, as well as a sink, faucet and garbage disposal (also used their subcontractor to install backsplash). This review is about the countertops and sink/faucet/disposal job-- we loved working with Bogi and the project came out beautifully. We didn't see the quartz we wanted in the Pyramid warehouse (although they had a great selection of granite and other stones), so Bogi suggested we look at MSI near Dulles. Bogi ordered the slabs we selected from MSI, coordinated the plumber to come when the counter top installers were ready for him, and even had them come back to clean up after the backsplash was installed by their subcontractor another day (he left some spilled grout on the countertop that we didn't notice until after he left.) The workers were clean, courteous and efficient."

"GBC Kitchen and bath did an excellent remodeling of three bathrooms in our home seamlessly. The assigned program manager (Enrique) was very professional, helpful, courteous, and kept us well informed about the progress of the effort. The GBC team did an excellent job of teardown and installation of tiles, floors, and cabinets. The company manager (Liz Rivas) was very responsive, and helpful to our needs and understood our requirements clearly, and executed flawlessly. I would strongly recommend the GBC kitchen for any remodeling needs in the house. Ajay Parikh."

"We chose DMV Kitchen and Bath to remodel our small master bathroom and guest bath. Joell was fantastic to work with. His suggestions were incredibly helpful yet he never tried to push up to spend more than we wanted. Our bathrooms are light, modern, and beautiful. The difference is amazing. I highly recommend DMV."

"WaterStone did a complete remodel of our smallish master bathroom (9' by 9'). They were responsible for all aspects of the project including design, permitting, materials and construction. We had an initial budgetary estimate of 30 to 35K for what we wanted. Other companies either told us the design we wanted (which required relocating plumbing and electrical) was either infeasible or way above our budgetary estimate. Jeff came in, listened to what we wanted and gave us design options that met our needs. After a couple of iterations, we settled on a design and Jeff provided an estimate from $32K to 38K depending on our material selections. He gave us a range of material allowances that were actually reasonable. Ultimately, the contract was executed for just under 38K - no overruns!. Jeff and Deanna helped us make the material selections while keeping us within budget (we went over some allowances and under others). We did not have to make any compromises on our vision for the bathroom. The project was finished in 8 weeks vice the proposed 5 to 6 weeks due mainly to a more difficult than expected demolition and the lead time for the shower glass. Jeff (owner), Deanna (designer), Jake (project manager) and Javier (on site project lead) were personable and easy to deal with. As usual with a project of this magnitude, there were a couple of hiccups along the way. The measure of a contractor is not the issues they have but how quickly and effectively they resolve the issues and WaterStone was topnotch in that regard. Problems were addressed and fixed right away. Two stories that demonstrate why we liked working with WaterStone so much: 1) we wanted quartz countertops but bathroom vanities usually require much less than a full slab. When their normal stone supplier would only quote a full slab which was way over our budget, WaterStone called several other suppliers and found one with a remnant that would meet our needs and would not break the budget; and 2) the glass supplier raised some issues about our proposed design for the shower glass and we started down the path of an alternate, much more expensive design. When Jeff heard, he came over immediately and talked us off the ledge about our concerns with the original design, ultimately saving us from a costly design change. WaterStone designed and built a bathroom that matched our vision for the price we were quoted. We've been using the bathroom for about 6 months now with no problems or issues. The workmanship from the crafts (plumbing, electrical, tile, glass) is superb. They respected our house and minimized any disruption (we slept in our master bedroom throughout the renovation). WaterStone is a gem."

"Fantastic! Capstone is a great company to work with. Stephen and his crew made great suggestions, listened to want we wanted, and kept us in the loop every step of the way. The tiler was meticulous in ensuring the pattern on the shower wall lined up with the same pattern on the bathroom floor. Our bathroom was in bad shape with water damage and an existing leak to the floor below. Capstone did major plumbing work for this job. We highly recommend Capstone Remodeling. They are knowledgeable craftsmen who take pride in their work. Stephen ensured we were satisfied. The workers were respectful of our house and belongings and cleaned up any work-related mess every day. The remodel of our master bath, sitting area, and two closets has made the spaces more functional and inviting. We already have them booked for another bathroom remodel!"

"We are so impressed with Moore Designs. They completed our patio installation in one day and it is wonderful. The patio complements the deck that they completed for us a month earlier perfectly. I will always recommend Moore Designs. They are professional, timely and have now delivered above my expectations twice."

FAQs for countertop and backsplash service projects in Mount Vernon, VA

Butcher block countertops come in three main styles, each offering a unique look and function. Flat grain, also known as face grain, showcases the natural wood patterns, giving your kitchen a modern and elegant appearance. Edge grain is made from long, narrow wood strips, making it sturdy and providing a consistent grain pattern. End grain features a checkerboard pattern that is highly durable and perfect for heavy food preparation. Each style caters to different aesthetic preferences and usage needs, enhancing your kitchen's look and functionality.

With proper care, wood countertops can last anywhere from 20 to 100 years. To keep yours looking like new, clean up spills immediately and reseal the surface regularly—ideally once a month in the first year, then twice a year after that. Regular maintenance helps preserve the wood's beauty and durability for decades.

Wood countertops aren't hard to maintain if you keep up with regular care. Simply clean them with mild soap and water after use and reseal them monthly during the first year (then twice a year afterward). Using a food-grade oil or sealant protects the wood from damage. With a bit of routine maintenance, your countertop will stay beautiful and durable.

Wood countertops are sanitary with proper care and maintenance. By sealing them with a food-grade sealant and cleaning them regularly with mild soap and water, you create a barrier that prevents bacteria from getting into the wood. Always dry the surface thoroughly after cleaning to keep it hygienic and safe for food prep.

It's best to oil raw wood countertops once a month during the first year. After that, you can oil them twice yearly to keep them in good shape. If your countertop is professionally stained or sealed, you might not need to oil it as often. Regular oiling helps prevent drying and cracking, preserving the wood's natural beauty and durability.
