"Castlton got to us quicker than any other company. They cleaned our oil spill, were thorough and attentive to environmental issues. Without their expertise and help our property would have little value. They saved our lifelong investment."

"Randolph was fantastic at every stage of our project to fully rework our driveway in Woodstock, which had apparently never been touched since it was first built 40 years ago. He gave us the best estimate in price, quality, and detail among 6 we solicited. When it came to doing the work, he was professional to an extreme, responsive to all our concerns, wise in responding to an unforeseen problem in repairing the drainage plan, and (as an unexpected bonus) artful in reshaping the driveway in a manner that improved the look of our entire site. You won't find a better partner for your project."

"We had our 35 year old buried oil tank removed. We also had Optima Environmental Services install a new 330 gallon above ground oil tank in the basement. I can't say enough good things about this company. From the initial contact with Dan and Kevin, who assessed our needs and prepared the quote with references, to Shelley who coordinates it all, and the actual installers, George and Walker. Everyone was knowledgeable, professional and friendly. All of our questions/concerns were addressed. Optima dealt with getting the necessary permits, having the building inspector on site, the soil tested and will provide the completed documentation, showing the tank is out, the soil is uncontaminated with the closed permit and c. o.. They also left the removal site in excellent condition. It was a true pleasure to work with this company. They are up front and honest about your project. They completed our project on time and without cost overruns. We are very satisfied customers for sure!"

Customers say: True professional
"We bought an old farmhouse that we knew needed some masonry work repairing a stone retaining wall, and keeping water out of the house and rain runoff away from our wellhead. I was absolutely dreading the repair, but Greg and his crew made things easy, and took care of a huge job in 2 weeks. Even as the scope of the project grew, based on some more issues found after excavating, Greg walked us through our options and took on the expanded work instantly. I couldn't be happier with the results-- even as things got pricier than I had hoped, the work is top-notch and Gregs resourcefulness, communication, and skills are the absolute best. If your project needs craftsmanship that falls under the many diversified trades that this team can take on, consider yourself lucky. Highly recommended."
Depth depends on the type of installation and the regulations in your area. Water supply lines typically require 24 inches, while drainage pipes are often installed 36 inches below grade. For most general projects, a depth of 12 to 24 inches and a width of about eight inches is sufficient. Sticking to these specs keeps your utilities safe, code-compliant, and easier to maintain later.
When you need to run utilities underground, you’ve got two main options: boring or trenching. Boring employs directional drilling to install utilities without exposing a continuous channel, while trenching requires excavating an open channel to place utilities securely. Directional drilling preserves landscape integrity, whereas trenching provides direct access for installation, albeit with greater surface disruption. This clear comparison helps you select the method best suited to your project.
Plan on 12 hours to dig 100 linear feet when the soil is cooperative and you can work continuously. This timeframe applies when work is performed consistently and methodically. Factors such as rocky soil, tree roots, obstructions, and frozen ground increase the overall duration, demanding extra planning and effort. Comprehensive operational planning ensures that every challenge is managed efficiently and the project is completed on schedule.
If you want your yard to look untouched, laying fresh sod over the trench is the quickest fix. New sod needs 30 to 45 days to root and blend with the rest of your lawn. A local sod pro can provide you with a firm timeline and tips to ensure the grass takes hold and maintains your curb appeal.
