"Shamrock Maintenance Corp. did an excellent job cleaning and inspecting our wood burning stove. The technician arrived on time, was professional, and explained everything clearly before starting the work. They made sure the area was protected and left everything clean once the job was completed. I appreciated how thorough the inspection was and the time they took to answer our questions. It’s hard to find reliable service these days, but they definitely delivered. Highly recommend."

"The whole experience from beginning to end was pleasant, including them having to come back because they did not have the proper chimney liner on hand. They set up chimney caps on my main chimney and wood burning stove, as well as a new chimney liner in the main chimney. This was a new home I purchased and the previous owners did not have these set up. ADV NY was responsive, courteous, and able to put my mind at ease with their great work. Would definitely recommend."

"The crew arrived on time and did a thorough job. The reason this rating isn't higher is because the crew chief had been in my house no more than 10 minutes before diagnosing what he said was a dangerous level of creosote in our chimney and recommending installation of a $1,000+ chimney liner, which his company would of course be happy to sell us. I said no, thanks. The next year I hired another service - Emener ([*** Link removed ***] - which told me that the chimney was actually in good shape and pretty clean considering how much we use the fireplace. 5 Star clearly used its promotional offer as a way to upsell an expensive add-on that I am now convinced wasn't needed. Beware of deals that look too good to be true."

"I had a great experience with the two-man Safety First crew that came out. I'm out of their way up in Jersey (not their usual service area), but they honored the Angie's List deal I bought when I thought they did service NJ. I'm a first-time home owner. I felt they were informative/instructional, and I was relieved when they told me my combination chimney (fireplace and furnace) had flues that didn't need repairs or replacements.

"After explaining the work I wanted done, Pacific Stone & Tile came to my house with samples and to make a template of the counter tops. This was done on Friday. The next Monday they arrived in the early afternoon and completed the work in a couple of hours. They didn't leave a mess and the counter tops are beautiful.

"Very smoothly and professional. They spent about 1.5 hours examining exhaust outlet, chimney and structure. Thoroughly cleaned the fireplace. Made sure the area was spotless before they left.

Some cities, like New York City, ban wood-burning fireplaces altogether. In places like Colorado and the California Bay Area, laws dictate when you can use your wood-burning fireplace based on air quality. Since regulations vary by location, it's best to consult a local contractor familiar with your area's laws. You can also check the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) website for state ordinances and regulations.
Yes, you can add a fireplace to your existing home, but it requires careful planning and professional evaluation. You'll need to construct a safe chimney, ensure proper ventilation, and comply with local building codes and HOA regulations. This project involves significant structural modifications and specialized labor, so hiring a qualified fireplace contractor is essential to ensure safety and code compliance.
Fireplaces enhance a home's value because they create a warm and inviting atmosphere while adding a distinctive architectural feature. A fireplace not only elevates a residence’s appeal but also contributes to greater market value. Industry research confirms that homes with fireplaces command higher sale prices, and homeowners benefit from an improved living environment.
Yes, installing a fireplace increases your home insurance costs because it raises the risk of fire and may require additional coverage. A fireplace demands dedicated safety inspections and documented maintenance, and insurers enforce stricter requirements, which drive higher premiums. Homeowners must consult their insurance providers and adhere to regular inspection schedules to manage these increased costs.
