"We initially retained Martin to redo the kitchen, and we chose him because of price, flexibility and lack of hassle. Martin did all the carpentry work for the kitchen remodel, including plumbing the walls and fixing a termite-damaged floor beam, and he also did all the plumbing work. Work was done very well. Because of the good work, we then asked Martin to remodel a bathroom, and that was done very well, and included tile installation, new piping etc. That went very well. The prior work held out, and so we asked Martin to replace the roof. That roof work was done very well also. On the first day, Martin had about 10 people working on the shingle-part of the roof work to make sure that work was done before rains came. A following day his people did the flat part of the roof. We have now had some heavy rains, and I checked and everything is fine. No damage to the guttering system. So, very happy and would recommend."

"We were very happy that First Class was able to set us up for maintenance on a Saturday without charging an emergency fee, as this is our secondary home and we do not live there full time. Buddy, the technician that provided our first service, was extremely competent and professional. The heat pump is over 20 years old, and he was able to replace the contactor, and keep our system running ($320). We were back for a 4 day weekend in February and all was well. On March 9th, we had no heat at all, and called for emergency service ($76). First Class showed up promptly in less than one hour. The heat pump needed a new blower and capacitor, which had to be ordered. We returned to our primary home (and heat), and arranged for a friend to assist First Class with access to our home later in the week. They came back and replaced the blower and capacitor ($687).



Maybe our system was just too old to fix. We leave our thermostat at 52 degrees while we are not there. Our electric bill from the period March 15-April 15 was exorbitantly high, over 4X the cost of the same month last year. We only spent 2 days in the house during that time frame. While we didn't really understand the problem at this point, we knew that there was one.



Because we had a maintenance agreement with First Class, our AC tune-up was already paid for. We saw Buddy again on May 20th. That is when we learned that all the Freon was gone from our system. Our AC worked great the previous summer, and now we were faced with an extremely costly repair, or the expense of replacing the system completely. We do not know what caused the leak in our system, if it was the age of the unit or the repairs that were done.



We ended up getting 6 estimates from 3 different HVAC companies before replacing the heat pump/AC. Andy from First Class was very careful and thoughtful in preparing our estimate. While First Class provided the lowest cost estimate, we ultimately chose a different company to install our new system.
