"He was on time, professional, courteous, and he found and fixed the problem quickly (within 1 minute). But he didn't take my money and run, he checked out each sprinkler zone, fixing a few sprinkler heads as he went. He also gave me advice on my front pond that was having issues. Lastly, he gave me a great deal! I was very impressed overall. I plan on using them again. Thanks, Kimball!"

"My husband and I are extremely happy with the finished product. Todd and his crew cleaned up every day. They were perfectionists in their installation taking the time that was necessary to do the job correctly. They were so quiet that there were times you did not even know they were in the house. The price was exactly the same as the bid. Todd is a talented craftsman who cares about the final product and respects the needs and wishes of the people who engage his services. We would strongly encourage others to use his services."

Small jobs welcome

"Prodigy has been a joy to work with. The owner, Al, demonstrated customer focused creativity in devising a workable solution to a very tough problem. His crew installed an under the floor gravity flow french drain system which solved a water table problem that had been causing basement flooding. His crew is hard working and friendly, and price is reasonable. They get the job done right."

"Getting the install scheduled was difficult: our calls were often unreturned and when we called on our own, we were not able to schedule the install. It wasn't until we threatened to cancel that a date was scheduled for installation. When the patio was installed, there were no borders to keep the pacers in place, leaving us to perform that work on our own. He have also had to add an additional 3 bags of sand to fill the cracks and complete that patio. The pacers look great and the work was done very quickly but the challenges in scheduling and the incomplete work preclude us from using this business again in the future."

"Reached out to Dirt Pros for a fence quote.  Erik called back right after I hit his voicemail and advised me he was booked solid, even to the point of not being willing to give an estimate for future work (I'm in no particular rush, I just want to get quotes in to compare numbers and start budgeting).  Polite, but I compare his reaction to a samurai blade cutting through some bamboo.

I can appreciate business overflow so I don't hold that against him.  Every company seems to be swamped with these requests before the winter time.

My feedback, and I share it to help Erik rather than harm him, is that if a customer just wants an estimate and they understand the actual work won't be done soon, find a way to accommodate the customer no matter how busy you might be.  Even if that means you go outside of business hours or something.   Why?

You never get a second chance to make a first impression.

EDIT: And I can appreciate the response.  My rebuttal to this is:

For materials/fuel, if I know that a product/service will cost me, say, $1,000 today, and I don't plan on doing the work anyway for 6 months and the quote is valid for 30 days, that's fine.  I can pad the number myself to get to an approximate figure, if the company is not willing to honor a cost beyond the 30 days.  I wouldn't budget $1,000, I would budget, say, $1,500.  If materials swell beyond a 50% increase, well, it's time to find another provider, because that's ridiculous.

Near the time I want the work done, I would then ask for an updated quote and a walkthrough to make sure that the price has not dramatically shifted outside of my expected budget.  But I need to know in advance how much I should set aside for the future work with at least a ballpark.  Also I want to get on a calendar in advance rather than last minute, because I know people are calling like crazy to get on the books.  Providers that only care about the next 30-60 days are shooting themselves in the foot, because come winter time there won't BE any business without a proper pipeline.

If the provider is literally right down the road (as this provider happens to be), I do not expect substantial fuel charges or changes in the quoted fuel charges.  Why?  Because by and large the distance won't have changed nor will the scope of fuel usage.  If the provider is charging me fuel based on a round robin route that involves other customers, well, that's not really fair.  I know that their tools will use fuel, but it's a one-time visit, not recurrent.  If the price of gas today is $3/gallon, quote me an extra $5 and be done with it, which should be more than enough to cover all needed tools for my work plus the gas used to get here (because you're right down the road).

I've done business with contractors that have honored the same fuel rate months after the fact because the distance has not changed."
