"The work they did was absolutely beautiful!  It looked professionally done with flawlessly  smooth walls and perfect edges.  We left them a key and they let themselves in and out each day.  At the end of each day, the house was clean and there was no worries about our toddler knocking something over.
One room had been wallpapered and we removed the wallpaper ourselves.  They washed, spackled (lots of spackle) and sealed the room before priming and painting it.  They also caulked the trim which had pulled from the walls.  The room looked perfect and there was no sign of the added destruction we did with the paper removal.
The second room was a dining room that was painted deep red.  We wanted it painted a light blue.  There were accents that were already in place which we wanted to be left the way they were.  The had to paint around columns and other parts.  When they were finished, the the blue was vibrant and the lines were perfect.
The final room was the bathroom where the drywall tape had started to pull away.  They fixed it and need to match the existing paint. Everything matched perfectly, and you could't tell any work ever needed to be done.
When the work was done, the paint had been labeled and left so we could use it if we needed it in the future. At first I though the price was a little high, but when we met at the end (two days later) he let us know all the extra work he did, I thought it was a steal. Even though extra work was done so the final product was perfect, he didn't charge us extra over the estimate.
Tim was a pleasure to work with.  His estimate was accurate and he really knew his stuff.  I highly recommend Prep Prime and Paint if you want something done the right way, the first time.

Have been a painter and light carpenter for many years. We enjoy being precise, exact, and will do whatever it takes to make the customer happy. I won't leave until the job is done to the customer's satisfaction. Love meeting new people and having new challenges. \n\nI love working with my hands and being outdoors (indoors, too). Have done a little bit of everything, from demolishing old houses to building new ones from the foundation up.\n\nI'm fairly good with colors, and can recommend color schemes (exterior or interior), if needed. Before the painting begins, of course I'll mend cracks in walls and ceilings, repair drywall, fix windows, doors, or just about anything else. \n\nLove doing yardwork, too. Raking leaves and cutting grass is a secret specialty of mine. A kind of zen relaxation for me. \n\nI have lots of experience with hand and power tools, and can put together just about any project you have in mind. \n\nJust need brute strength? Well, I can do that, too!

"They really are not that good because the work they did started to deteriorate quickly after they did it. They came back and resolved the problem but they also did additional work; they really are not the best painters. The price was very reasonable and they also did some exterior painting for me as well. The interior painting was not as professional as I thought it could have been but they were quick to respond to my needs. They were punctual."

"Kevin, our Estimator, was involved throughout and made sure everything went smoothly. The crew was terrific and helpful in every way. They provided a color consultant and the painters provided valuable insight when the trim color we initially chose didn't quite look right when they started painting the trim, they took the time to let us know their thoughts and worked with us to get the perfect match. They also went above and beyond...When we lost power during one of the Summer storms, they offered to leave their generator and ample gasoline with us so we could at least keep our refrigerator running! Definitely will hire again!"

FAQs for painting projects in Philadelphia, PA

You’ll need 1 gallon of paint per 350 square feet of coverage. Typical amounts per room size:

  • Small room (200-400 sq. ft.): 1 gallon.

  • Medium-sized (400-800 sq. ft.): 2-4 gallons.

  • Large (800-1,200 sq. ft.): 5-gallons or more.

Painters usually make $20 per hour on average or about $40,000 per year. Independent contractors might pocket a little more. However, they must charge for overhead, such as vehicles, equipment, insurance, marketing and association dues.

Specialty painting, like murals and trompe l’oeil, costs $40 to $50 per hour. Paint might range between $75 to $90. The professional’s skill and experience are also determining factors. While a freelance artist might charge $25 to $30 an hour, a very skilled professional might charge $80 or more. Some might also charge $60 or more for a consultation.

Trompe l'oeil creates a realistic image or optical illusion in three dimensions. Murals are composed on a wall of any size. These two projects vary in price, with a trompe l'oeil typically costing more because of its complexity. Both are considered specialty projects.
