"Our nine year old water heater failed two days before Christmas. After determining this was no simple home repair job, I looked up plumbers with a good rating on Angie's list and made the call just before 5pm on the 23rd. The owner, Finch, was responsive and tried to make something happen before the suppliers closed for the day, but that was just too much to be done under the circumstances. Communications were great that evening and an appointment was scheduled for the next morning. Alvin was able to pick up a replacement tank and arrived early the day before Christmas to replace the bad tank. The work was done with a great deal of attention to detail and what I watched was a skilled and good quality installation of the new tank. Alvin was very personable, talked me through the important aspects of the work, and he gave an overview of the best care regimen for the new unit. Several hours later, we had hot water, a better and cleaner installation than the old tank, and plenty of time left to be ready for Christmas Eve. The price was a little over $1600 in total, but well worth it in my opinion. I will be calling them back for more work in the spring.

"I had to pay an $85 service call fee (on top of monthly Choice Home Warranty subscription) to have a guy literally look at the outside of the tank and tell me it was just the burner."

"I phoned Eric abt 4pm on Monday afternoon & explained the leaking water heater problem in depth.  He said he would respond the next morning and would bring a new 40 gal heater w/him and quoted abt $800.  He showed up on time w/helper and checked out the heater.  We ageed to a new one and then he had to go get one (?).  I asked f/a low usage/environmental water heater.  He came back w/ a "Smith" 6y heater w/typical to high cost usage.  When questioned, he responded that he goes to a contractor's whse and gets what he gets.  I asked the price and got $400 something.  sigh.  Installed and operational by his worker in good time and well done.  I would've liked a $ breakdown w/parts and labor separated.  Also, he gave a 1 yr warranty on the job, but wrote 9/11/11 on receipt to predate svc by one month.  I don't think any of this was deliberate, but would appreciate more attention to detail.  I have no way of knowing how much labor cost, if it was reasonable or the rate/hr. and so am hesitant, but the job was done well and quickly."
