"DDC was hired to clear and grade a building site. Exceeded my expectations. Was on time and done before schedule. After building was erected the team was back to finish grade, seed and straw, and repair rock lane. Would and have recommended DDC for any earth moving job. "

"It went very well! I needed the drain line extended for about 10 feet after the job was completed. Barry Gladstone, the owner, came out on the next business day and completed the work at no extra charge. I waited for 2 years to write this review to test the drainage system over 2 complete weather cycles. After all of this time, everything is still working very well. I highly recommend Mr. Gladstone and the Outdoor Connection Inc for outside drainage system work."

"We had a lot of emails and calls to determine the best tank replacement and the exact dimensions. The old tank was inside and there were several sets of narrow doors that had to be navigated to bring in the new tank. The crew finished in a half day and did a neat job transferring the oil in the old tank to the new, and in replacing pipes and fittings."

"Very well. All work was completed on time, cleanup was terrific, and we have had several neighbors compliment us on the work. I have used Rock Spring Landscaping several times because their work is done well, on time, for a reasonable price."

"We hired Laura to design and install a garden of shrubs and perennials along the entire front of our house. And the whole process, from start to finish, was an absolute joy! First, we had a detailed in-person consultation, where she asked about our preferences for the garden (colors, size, fragrance, etc.). Then, within a couple weeks, she sent her design drawing, which was beautifully drafted. She selected a diverse set of plants that will bloom at different times of the year, to ensure continual interest through all the seasons. We exchanged a few emails to make some fine-tune adjustments to the plant selection, and she was always full of helpful suggestions. Leading up to the installation day, she worked steadily to source all the plants from a variety of nurseries, securing each one as soon as she found it to make sure that it wouldn't get sold out by the time of planting. She does all the work herself, so there's none of the miscommunication that can happen when tasks are delegated to a crew that may not be familiar with all the things you discussed. We're totally new to gardening, and she was happy to answer my many, many questions about caring for the plants--she's literally a fount of information. And on top of all that, we had fun, stimulating conversations during the installation, which made the experience even more special. We look forward to watching the garden grow and change, and we're excited to have her plant some trees in the fall!"

FAQs for gravel or loose fill paving install, spread or scrape projects in Aberdeen, MD

To calculate how much pea gravel you need for your project, multiply the length, width, and depth of the area you want to cover to find the volume in cubic feet. Then, divide that number by 27 to convert it to cubic yards to determine the amount of pea gravel you need.

A yard of pea gravel weighs about 1.3 tons or 2,600 pounds. Keep in mind that wet gravel weighs more than dry, and different types of gravel can vary in weight. For example, due to its density, river rock weighs significantly more than crushed stone and pea gravel.

The ideal depth for pea gravel depends on the type and size of your project. You'll need at least two to three inches for walkways and patios and a minimum of six inches for driveways to support heavy vehicles and prevent shifting over time. Aim for a depth of three to four inches in decorative garden beds or drainage areas.

Pea gravel is attractive, versatile, and low-maintenance. It provides excellent drainage, making it ideal for pathways, driveways, and garden beds. On the downside, its sharp texture isn't ideal for bare feet, and it can be challenging to weed or remove once installed. It can also shift underfoot without proper edging, creating an uneven surface.

Alternative landscaping materials you can use instead of pea gravel include wood chips, decomposed granite, crushed stone, pebbles, quartz, mulch, sand, and river rock. These materials offer different aesthetics, performance, and costs, so it’s important to do your research to determine which one best fits your landscape design and budget.

Many homeowners choose pea gravel because it requires minimal upkeep compared to other landscaping materials. You'll need to rake it occasionally to redistribute the stones and maintain an even surface. Pros also recommend installing weed barrier fabric beneath the gravel to prevent unwanted growth, although some weeds may still appear over time.
