"My new deck and porch are beautiful! Tom and Ben (the crew) did a great job. The tear down of the old deck was done quickly, cleaned up, and hauled away. They were meticulous in building the new deck and porch, and the end result is fabulous. Arran, the project manager, was very responsive to my questions, and progress was posted each day on their website. I could not be happier with the results and would not hesitate to contact Atlantic Deck for any future renovations."

"There is really no reason to go with anyone else—Exterior Works was the lowest price, most professional, and highest quality. I thought I had to choose between the high-cost, glossy brochure, licensed & reputable companies OR the cheap, unlicensed, pushy “if you ask for inspections the cost is double” contractors. Arafat quoted a much more reasonable price, gave excellent advice to help us build what would be most useful, never pressured us, and got all the appropriate permits & inspections. We were probably fairly high-maintenance clients, and Arafat was patient and kind, describing options as we went and modifying a ‘normal’ porch set up to reduce pollen so my highly allergic husband & daughters can enjoy the space. We absolutely love our new 3-season porch and pretty much live out here now. I strongly recommend going with Exterior Works for any outdoor project you have in mind."

"This is truly an amazing company! We recently hired Deck Builders, Inc to build a new deck and a 3-season room. We are very happy with the results! The team was professional, courteous, and kept us informed throughout the process. Randy Morgan started the project with us and provided design and conceptual ideas for the space, taking advantage of the natural light ultimately improving our original thoughts. Ricardo Anturiano and the work crews followed providing additional suggestions as the project unfolded to maximize utility/functionality yet keeping costs at a reasonable level. Ricardo, the owner was frequently on site and was available for any questions in person or by phone. Three things set Deck Builders, Inc apart from other builders and those we interviewed: 1. Attention to detail in all phases of our project especially in the design process, 2. Communication and schedule adherence throughout the project, 3. Reasonable cost and excellent build quality Deck Builders, Inc completed our project on time and within budget, which was greatly appreciated. The quality of their workmanship is excellent. The work crew were amazing in their skill and work ethic. We would highly recommend this company to anyone looking for a reliable and trustworthy construction company. Thank you, Deck Builders, Inc for doing such an amazing job! - Eileen and Tom C"

"We love our new deck with covered porch!! I applaud the commitment of this company when the project becomes more difficult than originally planned. Jon and Moore Designs went the extra mile to correct a previous contractors mess and persistently dealt with the county inspectors. In the end, the job is complete and we couldnâ t be happier with the amazing addition to our home. We highly recommend this company and would hire them again. If youâ re debating on what company to use for your project do yourself a favor and select Moore Designs, you wonâ t be disappointed."

"Had a great experience doing a bunch of jobs around the house that we had put off for too long. Thomas and another gentleman whose name i forget came for a couple days and they did a wide range of things we had asked them to do- fixing two doors that haddnt worked, replacing and painting boards on our porch, fixing a handrail, etc etc. While they were here they noticed a section of shingles were coming down and they were able to fix that quickly. They did it all very professionally, swiftly, and good quality and humor. It feels like a new house - i wish we had them come sooner! We're definitely going to have them do more work in the future."

"Let me start by saying that I am very pleased with the quality of the roof that Roofing and More installed.  Their team worked quickly and professionally and did good work, respected our property and our neighbors' property by working efficiently and cleaning up thoroughly when they were done.  Compared to the roofing companies that many of our neighbors have hired, I think we fared very well.
We were less impressed by the sales pitch and how we were treated by the salesman after the installation.  We are not fans of high pressure sales pitches, and have a policy of not making purchase decisions before we've had a chance to sleep on it and evaluate our options.  After looking over our house and taking pictures, the salesman scheduled a visit to present an estimate.  The meeting for the estimate was filled with details about the materials they use, the methods and procedures they employ, and why they apply the techniques they do.  Unfortunately, after presenting all this information, the salesman switched into pressure mode.  First, he presented us with 'good' 'better' and 'best' options which each consisted of different sets of materials. These choices were bundles of options, rather than simply indicating price differences for each material choice. The salesman then indicated that we could get a 10% discount if we made our decision right then.  We didn't appreciate the pressure. We also asked them to price out insullating our attic, and the salesman included an estimate for the number of packages of insullation material and their price.
As mentioned above, we were happy with the work that was done.  The roof seems sturdy and well constructed two years on.  The day before the work took place, the insullation material was delivered to our house -- the same number of packages as in the estimate.  After the roof was completed and the insullation was installed, the workers cleaned up and packed up their material -- including 4 packages of unused insullation.
When they sent someone by to pick up our check, I asked about whether the cost of the unused insullation would be deducted from the estimated price, as it wasn't used.  The gentleman they sent to collect the check hadn't heard anything about this, and we had to call the salesman who first insisted that they used all the material, and then relented when I told him that I'd seen them carry our the unused material.  Eventually, we had the cost of the unused insullation deducted from our bill.  This left a bad taste in our mouths.
As a postscript, many months after the installation, Roofing and More called me to see if I was interested in hiring them for any other work.  When I mentioned my experience with the salesman, I was informed that he no longer worked for the company.  I have also received sales material from them in the mail twice -- both times in unmarked envelopes.  It just seemed a bit odd that they wouldn't be honest about the fact that they were sending sales materials and include their logo or name on the envelope.
Bottom line, they are somewhat pricy, the quality of the work is good, but we felt a bit uneasy with their sales techniques.

"I am delighted to give Phoenix Home Services a five-star rating for their exceptional work on our home addition. From start to finish, they demonstrated outstanding quality, efficiency, reliability, flexibility, and excellent communication. Not only did they deliver a new living space we absolutely love, but they also completed the project in a remarkably short time and made the entire process as smooth as possible. Our project involved removing an existing covered deck and replacing it with a 20’ x 17’ four-seasons room. We sought proposals from several companies, and while Phoenix was neither the cheapest nor the most expensive, their numerous positive reviews and our discussions with Clint, one of the company’s co-presidents, made our decision easy. Clint’s expertise was evident from the beginning. He identified issues that other companies missed, such as the incorrect width of the existing roof cross beams according to Fairfax County code. He also offered many inspired design suggestions that set Phoenix apart. Clint’s detailed written proposal included a comprehensive "Scope of Work," listing every aspect of the project along with materials and quantities. The proposal featured realistic, computer-generated renderings from multiple angles, which proved to be nearly perfect representations of the final product. Clint estimated the project would take 30 to 35 workdays, but the team completed it in just 27 days, even though we added some new features along the way, like a glass block wall, French drains, and vinyl lattice with an access gate. We are delighted with our new addition. The construction is solid, and Phoenix resolved a long-standing drainage issue. The craftsmanship is impeccable—not even any spattered paint—and the quality of the custom-made windows, skylights, and split AC unit is top-notch. The two-year warranty on craftsmanship and materials also gives us peace of mind. The work crew, typically consisting of four to six members, was exceptional. They were highly skilled, friendly, polite, and well-organized. They adhered to local regulations by not starting noisy work until 8 a.m., cleaned up daily, and prepared the site for rain in advance. Our neighbors had no complaints and were impressed by the speed of the project and the pleasant demeanor of the crew. I particularly appreciated the crew accommodating all my picky requests, despite the extra effort required. Communication was another area where Phoenix excelled. Clint and Steve (the other co-president) made frequent site visits to provide oversight and seek our feedback. They also kept us well-informed throughout the project with weekly emails outlining the work plan, and they gave us a timely heads-up in case of any deviations from the schedule. They were both always responsive to our concerns and ideas, and they took the time to discuss every detail thoroughly. If they agreed with our suggestions, they implemented them immediately and ensured their crew was fully briefed. In summary, our experience with Phoenix Home Services was outstanding, and we would choose them again without hesitation for any future construction or remodeling projects."

FAQs for deck or porch projects in Aldie, VA

Northern white cedar is the most affordable cedar decking type and delivers exceptional value with low material expenditures. This option provides proven cost efficiency, meets essential durability standards, and is easy to paint or stain to meet your aesthetic preferences. By comparison, eastern red and western red cedar supply extra longevity and richer texture for a modest increase in investment.

Yes, cedar is a great choice for decking material. It offers a timeless look and natural resistance to decay and insect damage. Keep in mind that cedar requires regular maintenance, like resealing and cleaning, to keep it in top shape. With proper care, a cedar deck can enhance the appeal and value of your outdoor space for years to come.

No, cedar is not pressure-treated because it contains oils and tannins that naturally resist insect damage, rot, and decay. With regular maintenance, including annual cleaning and resealing every two to three years, cedar maintains its structural integrity and pleasing appearance for 10 to 15 years or more. Cedar’s natural durability, without need for chemical treatments, makes it an environmentally friendly option for outdoor structures like decks.

You should stain or seal your cedar deck every two to three years to maintain its appearance and longevity. This helps protect the wood from moisture, mold, and environmental damage, preserving its natural color and extending its lifespan. Regular maintenance keeps your outdoor space both attractive and durable season after season.
