"It was a pleasure working with AA Action Waterproofing. We had issues with water seeping through our floor after rain and had no idea where it was coming from or why. Then we saw mold! We needed new sump pump and drainage and 1 wall crack addressed. From the estimate to job completion AA Action Waterproofing was thorough at explaining our issue, the cause, and answered any questions we had. The team was punctual, clean, and did not remove anything other than what was needed (flooring, drywall, etc.). They also did a walk through with us and explained all the work done before they left! Since the work was done, it has rained, and our basement is dry! For the cost, it was great value for the quality of work. Highly recommended!"

"The staff of Drainage and Erosion Solutions is great! They called me the day before the appointment to confirm it, which other companies do not do often. In addition, on the day of the appointment, Rob R. called me to let me know that he was on his way. I really like that the staff of this company is so responsive and professional! When Rob R. arrived for the appointment, he looked at the side yard where there is soil erosion, and he listened to me while I explained the issue in detail. Rob R. determined that the solution to the soil erosion problem was simple landscaping, and my husband and I can do it in a weekend with some landscaping supplies. He gave me a free detailed recommendation related to the solution, which was above and beyond my expectations! Rob R. is truly an honest and knowledgeable professional! We didn't need to hire the company, but we will definitely hire them if we need any professional help with a wet yard or a wet basement! I strongly recommend Drainage and Erosion Solutions and Rob R.!"

"DB's has emergency service so, when the water line to my refrigerator was leaking late at night, they came out right away and replaced the line as well as the decrepit faucet that feeds it in the wall. The water line replacement moved pipes to a route under the house with no disruption to the walls. A small area about 18 inches square in the floor of the basement utility room was re-cemented, so there is no evidence of the replacement and they re-seeded the area in the front lawn that had to be dug up. This company has never failed me. They stand behind their estimates and never charge more. I highly recommend them."

"My leaky toilet turned into a rotted sub-floor. The crew Reid sent over to replace the sub-floor/install a new one / install new tile was impeccable. Very professional and courteous. I would certainly hire them for other house projects or emergency jobs. Definitely the best in the area! Highly recommend."

"Ruben and his team did exceptional work. Entire job was completed over three days, the team was exceptionally prompt and Ruben is an extremely hands-on manager. They came to install an irrigation system and also ended up removing a very large tree and stump for me. One stop shop!"

FAQs for basement drainage channels installation projects in Alexandria, VA

Expect a well-built French drain to last 30 to 40 years. By channeling both surface- and ground-water away from your foundation, the system relieves hydrostatic pressure and helps prevent costly structural damage. Choose a pipe with a quality cloth filter to keep sediment out and extend the drain’s life. A quick annual inspection and routine cleanouts will keep water flowing freely, ensuring the system continues to protect your home for years to come.

Most French drains sit two feet below grade, but depth ultimately depends on the problem you’re solving. For puddling rainwater or snowmelt, a shallow curtain drain at lawn level often does the trick. To handle rising groundwater, pros dig deeper, down to the footing, and run the pipe beneath the basement slab. A drainage contractor will determine the optimal depth for your specific soil conditions and water issues.

A properly installed interior French drain captures water at the slab, channels it to a sump pit, and directs it safely outside, preventing basement floods before they occur. Because the pipe sits just under the floor edge, a plumber can reach it easily for cleaning or repairs. Pairing the drain with a reliable sump pump gives you the best long-term protection.

Hire a contractor who installs drainage systems every day—typically a foundation specialist, drainage contractor, experienced landscaper, or plumber with waterproofing experience. These pros understand slope, soil, and local codes, and they have the equipment to trench safely around utilities. Ask for references and photos of recent jobs to be sure they can design a system that keeps water off your foundation for decades.

Once the drain is in, patch the yard by reseeding bare spots or replacing plants the crew removed. Inside, look for ways to add value—finishing the basement or upgrading interior waterproofing while the space is open often costs less now than later. Schedule a quick annual checkup to flush sediment and confirm the pipe and sump pump are clear. Consistent maintenance ensures the drain functions properly and protects your investment.

Most policies don’t cover the cost of repairing a French drain itself, but they may provide coverage for water damage if the system fails. Coverage varies by insurer, so be sure to read the fine print or contact your agent before any issues arise. If you live in a high-risk flood zone, consider a separate flood policy to close the gap. Knowing your coverage in advance helps you budget for repairs and avoid unexpected costs.
