"My wife and I purchased a charming brick ranch home from the 1970s with dreams of transforming it into our ideal living space. Our first project was opening up the kitchen/family room to the living room by removing a load-bearing wall—definitely not a DIY job. We posted our project on Angie’s List and were soon contacted by Isai Huezo, owner of Huezo’s Construction LLC. Isai visited us the next day, and his estimate was so reasonable that we eagerly hired them on the spot. On Monday, a professional crew of four, led by a foreman, arrived promptly at 7:00 AM and got straight to work. They were not only highly skilled but also incredibly polite, keeping the work area immaculate during the demolition. By the second day, the team had seamlessly removed the remaining 2x4s, installed a robust lintel beam, and perfectly matched the drywall and trim to the rest of the house. We also had an outdated picket wall around the basement stairs. Isai recommended modernizing it with a sleek 3-foot wall, and it was completed within the three-day timeframe. Thrilled with their exceptional work, we discussed adding a dream screen porch and deck. The estimate was too good to pass up, so we went ahead. The results were nothing short of spectacular. The screen porch was beautifully integrated with the roof joists, and the deck, built on sturdy 6x6 posts and attached to the house, was a masterpiece. The porch featured custom wiring for lights, a ceiling fan, and outdoor floodlights, with a stunning tongue-and-groove pine ceiling stained in a glossy walnut finish. The craftsmanship was top-tier, and the crew's professionalism and courtesy made the entire experience a delight. Encouraged by their success, we tackled our outdated 1970s kitchen next. Isai returned to vent and wire the microwave, install LED lighting, and add a sconce light. He even refinished the ceiling and windows. After removing the cabinets, Isai didn’t miss a beat, finishing the ceiling, painting the trim and windows, and installing a beautiful tile backsplash. When we realized our old appliances didn’t match the newly renovated space, Isai went above and beyond, helping us select and purchase new appliances and offering to install them. Huezo Construction exceeded our expectations in every way with their exceptional craftsmanship, incredible value, and the wonderful camaraderie we developed with Isai and his crew. We eagerly anticipate remodeling the bathrooms and building a concrete back porch with them. I wholeheartedly recommend Huezo’s Construction for any project."

"We were very happy with Chauncey's work. He was professional and extremely flexible with our schedules. My wife, as a high school teacher, works from home and on occasion she needed to not have a lot of noise while she was teaching and Chauncey worked around that. When necessary, he would work weekends and some evenings (depending on his schedule) to help us out. I did the framing so when he came through for the estimate, he made sure to give suggestions on things that needed to be corrected. I am someone who asks a million questions and he would stop working and answer every question. His work was incredible. The basement was not huge, but he worked around all the nooks and crannies of our basement. He made sure every cornerbead and bulkhead had sharp edges. Another thing we really liked is that he uses screws and not nails... No nail pops in a few years! That is a big deal!! As can be seen in the pictures, the finished product came out perfect."

We have been reluctant to write this review.  If we were independently wealthy, we would have JL Home Improvement on personal retainer and you'd never have the opportunity to hire the company that may well be the best kept secret in Lynchburg. Alas, our lottery number has not come up, so let us tell you about these folks.

We are dedicated DIY'ers. We had bad experiences with two different contactors early on, and were reluctant to try again. But drywall? Well, that's a skill we don't have. So we talked to JLHI about putting up drywall in an upstairs bedroom. After talking to them, we decided to have them put up the trim. Just to see. So we did. The resulting work was excellent. They understood our devotion to our 100+ year old house, and we could not be happier with the work done.

They are now working in our main living area, which poses multiple and complex challenges. The work - from everyone involved - is nothing less than exceptional. Each person has multiple areas of expertise, and all have contributed to work that will last for another 100 years.  These people are craftsmen; they care about the quality of their work and they will not stop until we are happy with the product.  The crew - often the unknown when hiring a contractor - are extraordinary. They arrive, work hard all day, clean up after, and try hard to minimize the disruption that renovations inevitably engender.

JL Home Improvement may not be your lowest bid. But if you want the best possible work at a fair price, done by people who love and care about what they do - well, you just can't do any better.

But you'd better hurry - our lottery number is bound to come up one day soon.

"I cannot say enough good things about Valle Painting. I initially hired them to do some exterior painting (gorgeous job!). Mr. Valle showed up to inspect his team's work, we started talking about other work his company does to include decking. My old deck was apx. 30 years old and had gone 15+ years without maintenance. The structure was dirty but in good shape, but the deck surfaces were dry and rotting - and completely unsafe. Mr. Valle walked me through his vision - replace the horizontal surfaces with Trex composite, power wash the verticals and structure pieces, then stain the vertical surfaces to match the Trex. I had been pricing materials to DIY the work, but Mr. Valle's pricing was quite fair, and his service is impeccable. While purchasing the materials, he called to let me know that the color of the Trex sample we chose was slightly off of what he was seeing at the lumberyard. He was worried that it might not look as nice as I expected, and he delayed his purchase until I could take a second look. I was thankful for the call because he was right - and we ended up changing the color at the last minute. Over the course of the two days, Mr. Valle's deck team ripped out the old boards, inspected the structure, added a new joist, made some minor repairs to the structure and rails, and installed Trex on all the horizontal surfaces including the deck stairs. The next day, Mr. Valle came out himself to do the power washing of the rails and structure. The painting team came out the following two days to stain the rails, the deck posts, and the vertical trim pieces. In about a week (plan to finish), I went from having an unsafe eyesore to having a gorgeous, safe, and usable deck that looks like something out of a magazine. I've already recommended Valle Painting to friends and neighbors. And because they do so much more than painting, Valle Painting will will be first in line for some remodeling work in my near future."

"Trey was very reliable from the time I requested the service work to be done. He showed up on time, ready to get the job done, making sure to have all necessary equipment to fix my grill. "They did not arrive until after 12pm every day. We have young kids and asked that they be gone by 5pm everyday for dinner and bedtime routines. Their showing up at 12pm, meant they had to either work past 5pm, or come back for longer. The job took 5 days. On the second to last day they did not leave our house until almost midnight. They drank our beer in garage (which we didn’t realize until we saw cans sitting all over the place), took multiple smoke and phone breaks and just sat out there for long periods of time. Our house was left a complete mess which required me to spend hours removing glue from the wood floors, door handles, and bathroom sink. They left glue buckets and other trash all over the garage. Debris was everywhere in our home as they did not to prevent this (dust from sawing, etc.). He ended up redoing the first room he did, at our request because they just floated the wood and it was terrible (not their fault). At the time of discussion he said he didn’t want to charge us anymore. We took this to mean there would be no charge. The night before the job ended my husband gave them a check for the agreed upon amount. He then emailed and texted me (the wife) the next day, saying my husband “forgot” to pay him the $250 for pulling up the floor and glueing it. We went back and forth multiple times discussing the fact that he did not “forget” and that Chad has never clearly expressed to us that there would be additional costs for this. Especially considering all the cleanup WE had to do All in all the floors look good. The quarter round on the walls not so much. It’s not fully nailed down in all areas, there are splintered ends, and it just looks like a quick halfass job. We are happy our floors are done, but would not use their service again:"

Price was super reasonable even when the job turned out to be bigger than expected.
