"We had an issue with our homeâ s kitchen counter GFCI when we discovered that a neutral wire had been severed too far into the electrical box to be effectively reconnected. Expecting to wait a week or more for an appointment, and concerned that no one would find such a small job worth doing, we nevertheless had the great good fortune to contact Source Electric Services of Melbourne Beach late on a Wednesday. Before close of business we had an appointment for the following morning with SESâ s Forrest, a retired electrical engineer. Forrest called first, showed up early, quickly determined that the wire had separated because of improper crimping, and repaired our GFCI while providing detailed instructions on the proper way to wire and pigtail a GFCI as well as every other switch / receptacle. (Among the most useful of his instructions was NEVER to trust what you see on YouTube; never to solder electrical [not electronic!] connections; the potentially lethal dangers of working with â neutralâ wires, even when the circuit breaker was â offâ ; and some reasons one might want to avoid purchasing switches and outlets from big box stores. We also learned that these seemingly small jobs are what SES does, and we should never hesitate to call!) We found SESâ s fees to be very reasonable, we learned a great deal, and we were very thankful for Forrestâ s highly skilled and very rapid response.
